Solution for external Flicker fixer?

I have recently made a cable and I just can't get it to work properly. No matter what I do, what settings I use, the image quality is horrible and it flickers every now and then...

On a black screen I get something that looks like snow. I assume that it has to be some sort of interference, but I have tried everything that's there ti try I believe!

Has anyone come across the same issues? I have only one board and I don't have a way of comparing with another...
which schematic did you use?

This is the correct wiring that was posted earlier in this topic and works 100%:

Thanks! I haven't soldered the red wire to port 23, it is soldered to the board instead. I'll change it tonite and see if I get any results... Many thanks!!

It is probably just the red wire you need to re-do then. However, this problem:

On a black screen I get something that looks like snow.

This is something I have too. I have heard that it may be a grounding issue, but I have tried with two different boards and cables. Even though I followed the pinout above 100% and I did get a nice picture, the "snow on black screens" issue is something I never managed to solve.

When I had one of these I used to get the snow effect on a black screen as well using a cable johnim made for me, I replaced it with an indi a few weeks later and sold it on.

the red wire for pin 23 is for power so you really should use a 5v 2a psu instead

but Dont connect both

I use a psu it's better and safer

@johnim So, the red cable is connected straight in that pin, and the black one, where does it go? I understand it has to go to the ground shielding (or a black wire when using a PSU, which I might in the end) not sure what the ground shielding is (I know, I am a noob )

I just realised how that sounded lol, the cable john made was well assembled, I assumed the snowing was a fault of the board not the cable (which is why I moved it on), just to clear that up.

the black would be to the shell metal housing

I would suggest you just use an external psu only and not use the 2pin red and black connector

cheers jonhim, I have a PSU lying around so I'll do that then, see how it goes!

no worries acid I never read it like that there are a few versions of this board and some can be worse than others

One little question before i get started soldering. I have a 5V-2A PSU. I understand that I have to wire the red cable (positive) to port 23 and the black to the metal shielding.

How do you power the board up then? With a separate power supply? thanks

i used to power from the amiga with pin23 with the red and black wire

but now i just use a 5v 2a external psu only

dont use both as you may damage the amiga

Ok I see, so if I use an external PSU, I have to plug it straight to the board, not to pin 23... ook, so I'll get started soldering then, see what happens

Hi mate, I seem to have the same problems as before. I keep on getting the same flickering & "snow"as before. Tried with 2 power supplies (5V-2A & 5V-3A) which didn't make a difference either.

Here are some pics:

Soldered grounds

RGB + Sync (It's black because it is a different cable which is soldered to the grey one that came with the table

Not sure if the flickering can be noticed here, but it does flicker a lot (tested on a couple of monitors)

And the "snow".

I'm not sure what can actually be going wrong. I think that the only thing that may be causing it, might be the fact that I soldered some cables to the ones that came with the board in order to extend the cable a bit...:shrug:

also have you tried adjusting settings on the boards menu

as mine i a lot clearer that that

cable looks ok

In a desperate attempt to get this working I've soldered the cables directly to the board and that seems to have removed the "snow".

The image quality isn't sharp yet, but right now I'm having to use a 3A power supply, so that might not be helping!

I will try to get my 2A power supply to work again, but I suspect that the board might be broken...

I'll check the threads to see if I can find your settings :)

just tested it on a different monitor and the results aren't that bad. Just need to repair my 2A power supply and test it thoroughly with the right amps.

I get the odd "snow" but I need to find a case for this an insulate everything and see if that is removed..

At least i can use WB and play :)

Mine has always had "snow" not a lot, but quite noticeable on a black screen.

The GBS needs about 450ma at 5volts, so any powersupply that does 500ma or more will be fine, whether you're using a 3amp, or a 2amp supply it won't make any difference, unless one has a dirtier output voltage than the other... then you MAY notice a difference.

Hi mate, thanks for the clarification! Ill keep the 3A power supply then!

Just a weird thought but does anyone have access to those ferrite beads (or whatever they are called) and might that help the snow at all??

I just remember that some of my older video cables used to come with those things..
Was never really sure what they were for.. ;-)

I get a bit of snow on mine. Not bad (especially not for the price), but if I can clear it up, I wouldn't mind. My GBS is just in a plastic case right now. Not sure if something better insulated would help.

(Not sure if I have anymore of those things.. If I do, and I can swap them, I'll give it a try..)
