I've tried a couple things and seem to get the same error. Always a 'Could not add interface"XXX" (Inout/output error)'

Test1 was an A1200 + OS 3.2.1 + 3.2 ROM + 3Com 3c589D PCMCIA card + Roadshow 1.15 (full paid version); with only the original 2MB memory I would get some crashes

Test2 was an A2000 + OS3.2.3 + 3.1.4 ROM + Ariadne_II card + Roadshow 1.15 (full paid version); with 3MB memory I was still getting mem crashes so I added a Micron 2MB card (5MB total) for stability

In both instances I
  1. installed Roadshow
  2. copied Sys:Storage/NetInterfaces/ driver+driver.info to devs:NetInterfaces
  3. rebooted
Same I/O error. Am I missing part of the install process? I looked at 3c589 and ariadne_ii driver configs. Each call the proper driver. My initial thought of too little memory was proven wrong when I moved to 5MB in the A2000. I am taking the default driver configs. Their settings explanations seemed like the default was the proper choice.

Completely aside, if you are running OS 3.2.x and a network card, 3MB is still not enough.

Why does this forum software force this? Argh.
Edit: And, yup, adding the 3c589 driver to the A1200 solved the problem.

My bad on that. Since everything was promoting itself as SANA-II compliant I thought a driver was not needed, just the network adapter config file.

Daft question, but have you also installed the correct device driver for the network card? The file in Devs:NetInterfaces is the network config file (which you should also edit to match your local network environment).

Typically you’ll need a device driver for your card in Devs:Networks which is then referenced in the file in Devs:NetInterfaces

Re test 1 - have you got cardreset and cardpatch in your startup?

Okay to echo the above plus:

The error refers to not actually seeing the network card. This can be down to the following:

- Correct device ID. I.e normally defaults to “0”. But if you have more than 1 network card then this may be “1”. This is setup in the Netinterfaces file.

- The device is being seen by the Amiga. On the A2000 with ROM 3.x you should be able to see the Autoconfig in early startup (Press and hold both mouse buttons on powerup).

- On the A1200 check the Card interface (PCMCIA) option in tools to see if the card is actually being recognised.

Yes, the device is being seen by the A2000. The Autoconfig matches. Per https://amiga.resource.cx/exp/ariadne2

For Test2/A2000 it was the lack of driver. After the install of the driver, without reboot, the addnetinterface <card> worked, and found my local network.

As for Test1/A1200, I found a driver at https://aminet.net/package/driver/net/3c589 That's my next step.

Re test 1 - have you got cardreset and cardpatch in your startup?

Is this still needed? I thought I read somewhere, awhile back, that it was not needed for OS 3.1+
