Pitty they shut all the creative side of the liverpool studio down though :(

A lot of the old Psygnosis days people where still there when they shut the doors

Though thinking about it I can only think of two people I know who where still there when they shut the doors who had been there since the Psygnosis days.

Ok, not much Psygnosis left, then :) It wasn't Psygnosis anymore, in any case.

Believe it or not, two people IS pretty significant. (I'm bold enough to go straight for fact here. Not opinion)

Is it really so hard to believe?

If you're struggling to understand how this can be then you are probably focusing on the number of people, 2 as a pure statistic.

Instead, imagine two people that you look up to and/or admire.

Note: This can include yourself, on the condition that you look up to and/or admire yourself.

How about imagining the Terminator film without the T-800?

Therefore, the Psygnosis left at Sony Liverpool before they closed their doors was significant.

Well that's just the of the chaps I knew from my time there, I expect there where a lot more who where there from the days of Psygnosis to the days they shut the doors

Since then i have thought of quite a few other people who where still there from the days of Psygnosis till the end

most people don't know the ... most interesting tale of the two founders of Psygnosis .... their (not so humble) meteoric rise and fall of a company called Imagine Software.

Then a company called ocean bought out a bankrupt Image Software which had oodles and oodles of debt.

Conversely I have always felt that the two founders were more confidence players than real developers.... however when they put together Psynosis it seemed that they had really learned what to do in the industry (not playing as the jetset and playboys).

The development studio brought some fantastic titles - some of which are about today - WipEout, Destruction to name a couple.

So this is quite interesting news that Sony is trademarking the name for a new brand.... quite interesting indeed.

I LOVE Psygnosis. That logo was always such a great and exciting logo to see if i was testing a floppy disc on our 1200 that had no label. Also i love SotB. im glad Sony have made a move to trademark this, maybe they have plans. i can't help but feel that new SotB will be a bad game... i hope it isn't but i also love Splatterhouse and i hear that game is so bad i can't bring myself to buy it.

I would love to have a Psygnosis interview on our podcast, especially during the production of SofB, what a time that must have been in that office.

I don't think SotB was actually developed by Psygnosis, but yeah, an interview would be awesome.

You are right, i whould have known the answer to this as a good friend used to work at Reflections inc but SotB was before his time, he worked on Destruction Derby on the Ps1.

this is what Wiki had to say -
Shadow of the Beast is a side-scrolling platform computer game produced by Reflections Interactive and published by Psygnosis in 1989

so i assume they just had distribution rights to the game? i might be wrong but i get the feeling the Shadow of the Beast interviews have said as much as can be said about the game? still it's a lovely game and it made me fall in love with the Amiga so i will continue to hold it in high regard.

Thanks for the correction SLK, still if anyone here knows of a Psygnosis employee that wants to chat retro games let me know and i will ask for an interview. our recent interview with the creator of Hell IX was really good and im currently working on getting an interview regarding the M.U.L.E game.

Psygnosis both published games from external developers and also developed in house.

Psygnosis - such an awesome word! I remember when Sony changed the name, it was quite a sad thing for me. Then when they shut down Studio Liverpool last year I was quite surprised and very saddened to be honest. Now it seems the ashes of that studio are bearing fruits in the form of Driveclub which is nice.

Honestly, being a total WipEout freak, I say no more Wipeout games please. It was done to death (just like every other diluted franchise out there) and is probably the reason why Studio Liverpool got shut down. Sony took a talented dev and made them churn out the same old game for near on 10 years and milked it dry. Psygnosis was at its peak in 1995/6... so many awesome games coming out then for PS1.

Nevertheless it will be strange with a Playstation without Wipeout :)

If this is the true reason why Studio Liverpool were closed then it might be due to the high number of past customers that think the same as me, that Wipeout peaked at Wipeout 2097 and then somehow lost it's way and never recovered.

I think Wipeout 2097 was such a balanced game.

I appreciate that the graphics are very good for Playstation 1, but would be a disappointment on Playstaion 2 and later, but my personal feelings are that the graphics are the only areas that required improvement: Just like AV did with F-Zero GX on the Gamecube.

I also think that the tracks, graphics and sound are all areas that went downhill in Wipeout 3. There are some cracking tunes on there, but I expected to see updates of the tracks featured in Wipeout 2097, and how they would change a few years later.

I didn't like the new menu system either, and felt that it was a step backwards from 2097.

I felt that the strongest part of Wipeout 3 were the logo sequence in the intro, but even the intro felt like a step backwards.

Wipeout Fusion looked great and is pretty fun to play, but it is still a step backwards from 2097 in my view. I really don't like the way the game is crippled until you have played it for a few weeks.

I haven't played the Playstation 3 version yet as I don't have one yet.

For once I agree with you mate ;) Wipeout 2097 was the best, and every time a new one came, I was always initially wowed buy the better graphics... Then left after the initial wow factor with a thought... "not as good as wipeout 2097". coincidentally (or not) the original guys that programmed WipeOut and Wipeout 2097 left after making 2097. Funny that ;-)

Wipeout pure on psp came close though. I must admit :-)

I own every WipEout game... on every Sony Format bar the Vita (PS1 - PS2 - PS3 and PSP)

Will I get a Vita.... maybe..... will I get a PS4...... very unlikely....

WipEout is one of my favourite franchises - there are a couple of turkeys for sure BUT by and large I really enjoy the games.

My favourite is the Original... yeah other versions are prettier and have better physics.... but the Original is just too awesome... yeah it has a few glitches, and a little bad clipping here and there - but nothing beats the feeling of putting in a record lap time that beats the fastest ship in the fastest class with the slowest ship in the slowest class...

yeah..... I can do that.... just don't race me ;)

Seem to remember the main programmer and designer literally locked themselves away until they where happy with how the vehicles handled

I agree. The original has a certain jais ne se qua. Like vintage Star Wars (or Star Trek):)
