The iconic 90s home computer returns reimagined for the players of today

The wait is over.

From the creators of THEA500 Mini comes THE A1200, a full-sized recreation of one of the most iconic home computers of the early 1990s, now reborn for the modern era. Developed in conjunction with PLAION REPLAI, one of the world’s premier producers of retro hardware and software, THE A1200 combines meticulous authenticity with modern innovation, offering the definitive revival of a true 90s legend.

Following the global success of THEA500 Mini, which sold over 100,000 units worldwide, Retro Games Ltd has once again captured the magic of a generation raised on floppy disks, pixel art, and late-night gaming marathons. This is THE A1200, the machine that powered a decade of imagination, now rebuilt for the 21st century.

Back to the 90s, and beyond. Plug it in, switch it on, and step straight back into the era when games were bold, colourful, and full of character.

THE A1200 comes pre-loaded with 25 legendary titles, including Beneath A Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, Ruff n Tumble, Defender of the Crown I & II, and the Turrican trilogy, plus many more. Every game looks and feels just as you remember, only now with HDMI output, save states, and USB sideloading for even more adventures.

The ultimate 90s setup.

Each A1200 includes a working keyboard, classic-style mouse, and gamepad - everything you need to dive right back into the golden age of 16-bit gaming. “This was the machine that made the 90s come alive for a generation of players,” said Paul Andrews, Managing Director at Retro Games Ltd. “With THE A1200, we’re celebrating that incredible moment in time - the games, the design, and the creativity that shaped a generation.”

No mention in the press release about the ARM Cortex A53? Or this being software emulation? Or the fact that the A500 Mini repurposed tank mouse is wrong with an Amiga 1200? Or the A1200 stamped where AMIGA should be?

$189.99 USD? I guess that's cheap enough to overcome the objections?

Plus $50 for shipping and another $150 in tariffs/duties/brokerage/VAT?

Yes, yes...I will take the role of "THAT GUY" (today only?). :-)

It's nice but, I won't be "THAT GUY" who buys one :)

But the people who would buy it here on Amibay... Why would you buy it? Is it 'good enough' for you? Is it another one something to add to dozens of other Amigas and related?

Looks like good value. And any keyboard makes me curious, maybe I will make a KS-33 mechanical switch version. I'm hoping to find MX-mount keycaps... but they have probably cheaped out with rubber domes.

Why buy it when I have all the classics?

Convenience and relative disposability, won't be afraid to shove it in a bag and take it with me, drop it in a car, connect it to random TVs in parties with friends etc. But truth be said it doesn't add any functionality I don't already have..m

For the collection.
Collection of what? USB keyboards connected to a Pi? My real AMIGA 1200 would be rightfully offended at me for buying this. :-)
I will probably buy one.
Please give us fellow Canucks the final landed price after conversion, shipping, duties/brokerage, itemized if you don't mind. Much appreciated.

Why do people build miniature train sets in the loft ??

Why do people restore classic cars / build kit cars when you can but a new one with all the modern convenience

Why do people travel to airports just to plane spot or sit outside eddie stobarts with a camera waiting for a new truck name to be shown

Why do people plant flower gardens and cut bushes into geometric shapes

It doesn’t matter why if YOU dont understand thats you. I will be buying one for my own “Why” reasons even if its just a box of El Cheapo wires. I dont care I still would like one.

@YouKnowWho

I already own 3 original A1200's so what exactly is your point here?

And if you are thinking of rekindling the FPGA vs ARM vs Original debacle here - don't. Take it to Amirant.

I am very excited this is happening, one more way to inject Amiga into our lives and for non collectors to relive the magic and regain a taste of computing from back when it was fun and everything was possible

On the latter point, I am even more excited about the vision Perifractic has for the new Commodore, and eagerly await the possibility of a new development path for humane computing that is less toxic and the right blend of useful and fun

That this isn't an Amiga by hardware or name even with one eye closed and other barely squinting. I guess that's why I didn't buy the A500 Mini either choosing to redirect that budget toward a real AMIGA 500+ computer. Main goal of this device in my view is to part nostalgiacs like us from our funds. Main benefit is to give us a slight moment of resemblance to the joy and rush of possibilities opening a real AMIGA 1200 gave us back in the early 90s.

As for the second point, I thought all that needed to be said about that was said already. No preemptive warnings required. :-)

Yes, I guess I'm more mindful of my consumption of plastics lately, even if it feels like swimming against the current.

They would have done the community a service with this thing if at least the keyboard could be used with a real Amiga 1200 motherboard/case setup. Perhaps someone will clip on a USB adapter to their 1200 and plug this keyboard in to see. Hopefully it fits and works. That would certainly at least add an element of value to this proposition.

After you get your A1200 @Sardine, get ready to buy it again...this time in the always stylish Black Edition. :-)

For the collection.
Thanks!

Will you actually use it or NRFB?

Sorry (even though I participated in previous debacle about c64 ultimate), it was a genuine question from me. I was curious the people's motivation here. I, for example, don't have much extra space and time (given the number of systems I already have), so have to consider carefully if I am adding anything to my collection.
