Hi folks,

Recently I've seen more and more instances on our site of people selling items whereby the description is "rare" this or "rare" that. Can I suggest that we refrain from such descriptions please? We're not the other bay here and most people on this site know what is rare and what is not.

In fairnes this is just a personal rant and probably doesn't bug anyone else other than me lol

I just don't want us turning in to an extension of said other bay...

John

To me it is a minor annoyance, but I suppose if someone wishes to include it in their description then that is upto them.
As long as the item is genuinely rare, of course. :)

If the sellers on here are doing that then really they are shiooting themselves in the foot. I should think everyone on this forum would know what is rare (or thoughtafter) without someone telling them in the thread description. It's off-putting for me and I'm sure it is for many others so thus they are getting less interest.

Hehe yeah - I know but I dont' rant much and this has just started to bug me (i.e - folk treating Amibay folks like the other bay) and it's really just me that's getting annoyed by it. now if someone wants to post "C65 - pristine - RARE" i wouldn't have a problem

In that case, I would allow the RARE to be in bold, and maybe even have sparkles. ;)

It is a minor annoyance that does irritate me. So long as it does not get out of control then I can deal with the occasional newbie using the word. Whenever I see it, I simply ignore the thread even if it is something that may otherwise interest me because most items with that tag tend to have high price tags as well. :)

I already had my self a little rant about "rare" items in a diferent thread, was aimed more at the evil place though.
so i guess if any 1 read that they know my stance on the matter :)

Seeing the word rare makes me look at it just so I can go pfft what are
you kidding me..

:coffee:

It makes me laugh when you see games listed as rare when they sold in the millions when released, Zelda or Final Fantasy games for example. Highly sought after maybe but rare, I think not :)

Sadly some people can't distinguish between sought after and rare, atleast not on Ebay. It's even funnier when it says 'rare' and theres another 10 pages of them below it

whenever I see the rare word, I don't even want to look at the post.

when someone mentions rare he/she wants to squeeze the lemon dry, and telling that the person doens't have respect for the community.

funny thing.. we discussed this on IRC yesterday

Even when i know something is quite rare... I still hate to use that word!! I blame ebay as it puts me off using the word for genuinely rare items.

I'm thinking about selling my Panasonic Gamecube and i won't list it as 'RARE' (not even sure if it is really)... I'll put something like 'not very common' or 'not many of them around' :D

@power Pie

You could put,

"limited distribution in Europe makes these item(s) uncommon in the very least and next to impossible to find at worst"

Alternatively you could use Professor AndyLandy's R.T2 Theorum

;)

i use that formula and it turns out i am incredibly rare!
however nothing that i own actualy is. But funny enough 90% of the things i have thrown away over the years are.
(i think there may be a discrepancy in that formula where im using my desire to get my old stuff back for D making all my old missing stuff priceless)

When people on ebay post Item for Sale then put Label on " RARE " and put price so high and I thought....I will have go ebay user and Complain.....say

"What a Laughable Price you putting a Items that Class as RARE when there is loads of them poping up on Ebay!!!"

His Answer was....No Surprise that He couldnt even reply back to me!:p

Medium, Please

Medium, Please

Whenever I'm looking for anything on EvilWays, I always put -rare in the search field. That way I don't hurt myself by laughing too hard.
My formula has fewer variables: RARE = robbery.

Lets not forget the extended family that are usually found around Miss Rare

LOL, Condition Rarely bathes, unhygienic, always has some sort of black slime that seems to ooze from his skin.
LOL, Price Compulsive gambler, always spends big and looking for the next big score, actually a complete looser. Don't give him your money for christ sake.
LOL, Description The more you find out the less you like her, looks OK in the photo but actually a complete nutter. A few minutes reading of the pages in this book and you'll find she has more issues than News of The World, and is generally broken.
LOL, Rare Think's she's something special, but as common as muck. Also being the daughter of Description, is insane to boot.

I was reading this and thinking yeah it is pretty bad to use the word rare ... then I thought hmm I should look at my sale threads on Amibay ... :wooha::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops::oops:

Oh dear ..... I am so sorry to Amibay lol I didn`t realise I was doing that, shame on me.
