I need to export a piece of equipment from the UK to a non-EU country for repair. I've been looking at the process I'd need to go through to ensure I only pay VAT and any duties only on the value of the repair and I can't get head nor tail of it. Could anyone provide a step by step idiot's guide by any chance?

I think I need to fill out a SAD C88 but I don't understand either what goes in the boxes, how much of it to fill in, or what to do with afterwards - do I send to HMRC, do I "attach it" to te equipment and what does "attach" mean.

Anyone know and willing to explain?

Declare "old vintage computer parts for repair" with low value and you might not be taxed. At least that works between USA and uE and Switzerland and UE, but at the UK border is a different story since Brexit with a bit of finickiness on customs of both sides.

You need to state the reason for shipment as "Repair" and declare on the customs paperwork "Value for customs purposes only". Keep all the shipping details for when it's shipped back to you as customs may ask for proof. I have to send kit off to Yanksville for repair fairly regularly and as long as the paperwork is all correct, it's normally straight forward.

Thanks Moggsie, much appreciated, sounds simple enough even for me (lol).

I shipped my 3000T MB to New Zealand from UK. Marked it clearly as electronic components for repair. Had no issues with customs. Postage was hefty though and cost more than the repair.

In theory this is keen - but in reality it all depends on the involved shipper!!!

I've had stuff shipped from the USA to the UK a few times and declared as warranty repair or just repair and never had to pay any import or shipping duty.

Does anyone know how much cost send to Finland if the items is less 5KG?

But I've been the recipient of these and never paid any import duty or taxes.

And when was this and what exactly did you declare and which shipper have you used?

Important things in this cases....
