Ok everyone, be gentle, I am still learning the amiga, again :D

Here is my question...

I have been playing Pool of Radiance on my 1200 (thanks steve) and it takes a long time to save. I did some research and learned that it is normal because of the OS swaps. I also read that if you preload the game it does not take as long. So I thought I tried it, I added the preload/s in the tooltype dialog box but there is no change. Takes the same amount of time. Am I doing something wrong or is it just the way it is?

I dont know this specific game, but two things I can think of:

1) Not enough fast RAM
2) You're using WHDLoad 16.9, which has a known Preload bug, try 17.0 or 16.8

I have 16mb of fast ram. I don't think that could be it but I am using 16.9. I might have to give 16.8 or 17 beta a try...thanks for your input!

In the tooltype box, did you type "preload/s" or "preload" ?

In Whdload 17.0 there is the Preload progress bar: when you start the game for the first time, whdload write the length of the file(s) in a new tooltype called PreloadSize; if you restart the game, now the progress bar appears in the splash screen of Whdload.

Bye Fabio

I used preload/s. Was that the correct command?

Hmm...bummer, so it sounds like there is nothing I can do.

I tried loading it from the ram disk with writedelay=0 (global). No real difference. The only thing is that it is unregistered 17.0. My 16.9 is registered maybe that is the problem. I will have to copy my keyfile over to new cf hard drive I created. I doubt it will make a difference, but who knows....

What about this...

Is there a way of saving to a floppy instead? Would that make a difference?

Ok...now I have some progress...

On my 1200 I was able to change the writedelay=0. In winuea on the CF card I was creating I could not.

The 1200 is 16.9 registered
Winue 17.0 is not registered

In any case, the writedelay made saving a whole heck of a lot faster....Thanks all for your help..

One last question...changing the writedelay, any consequences?
