Hi Everyone- I know it may be a lot to ask but while the 4000 I just bought works beautifully its faceplate is really yellow in a bad way.

Would love to get a nice white replacement!

If I have to buy the whole case I may be up for that also

thanks

Did you try to Retrobright it?
It is easier to win the lottery then to find a case or a frontpanel for a a4000. It cost me 1 1/2 year to get one. This one was yellow also but with retrobright it is better now.
good luck.

I know you are asking for a new one, but just clean the old one and stick it outside in the sun for a few days (or week depending on where you live). It will typically come back 99% to original.

If it doesn't you can put it a bin submerged with (even weak 3%) liquid peroxide and set it back out for a day or two more.

There are other ways to speed up the process, but this is the safest and won't ruin it.

Fast way is to put plastic into transparent bag (or wrap foil) filled with peroxide ( I use 15%) and expose to sun (or UV+IR lamp) for few hours. Can be inside home near window if outside is cold.

small OT:
my a4000's front has been retr0brighted at least 7/8 times in some years, but has always turned yellow.
Retr0bright doesn't always fine.
If after first retr0bright plastic come back to yellowing, my advice is to professionally painted in a "car body shop" (no homemade) with the right plastic colour.
Solve it definitively for me.

It is near to impossible to find nos or mint condition a4000 faceplate (no yellowing, no broken clips).
Usually they are with cases.

May i ask what colour code did you use? This is a really nice match...

I'm really sorry, I don't know how to help you, becauseI did not do it.I don't recommend just doing it at home. Rely on an automotive professional if you want a good result.

I just wanted to chime in with my retrobright experience. While it looked great at first (maybe 90%), my 4000 faceplate also yellowed again over the period of a few years. I know this works for others, but I recently tried the "leave it in the sun for a few hours" approach and was horrified to find it looking the color of a used cigarette filter, significantly worse than ever. 😢

I think fralbore's idea is stellar. (The Alfa is pretty stellar, too! (y)) Plastic paints act somewhat more like a dye, and will be a permanent fix while leaving the original sheen and texture intact (assuming a good match with regard to sheen).

The only caveat might be the faceplate badge: I'm not sure how easy they are to safely remove, and this could be an even bigger downer when your yellowed faceplate has an original pristine badge with its transfer tape still intact.

This outfit however appears to sell reasonably accurate looking replacements:

Ok. Removing badge is very safe and simple. You need some barrel tool to push it from the other side. Other way will be to cover it with a masking tape.

Best choice will be the alloy reproduction of panels organized here on amibay.
