Perfect, put an a500 drive in it, worked straight away. So it was the drive, it was faulty, but considering they are virtually the same size I've been trying to get the case closed, I've played about it with it, but no joy, is there anyway of closing the top case possibly, I guess I'm just going to have to replace the case each time I put a game in to test it...Thanks everyone for your help, your the best, I appreciate it your help. Main thing is, the discs and games now work, until I find another problem..hehe

A500 drives will not fit in A1200/A600. Therefore you have to find a second-hand internal drive.

I don't see that you tried cleaning the heads yet. Now that you got the drive out, remove the top from the drive and you should be able to get to the two heads with a cotton bud soaked in isopropylalcohol and wipe them off gently (if you push too hard you can damage the suspension). Dirty heads is the most common fault when a drive fails to read.

Some were 1" slim type instead of 1.6" normal type, mounted on conversion bases to match the A500's case fixings, those would perfectly fit in the A600/A1200 once the base was removed (and some slight mod done to the eject button).

Cleaning the heads was the first thing I did, when I removed the A500 spare drive from another machine, it will do till I can get an a1200 second hand drive, correct kirk, I could mess about trying to mod machines, but I aint really going to be using it till I can get a proper replacement..Since then, I have noticed the power light doesn't come on, and there is a slight connection problem to the l.e.d power light, another issue I have, I think the actual motherboard has moved slightly because the audio connectors in the back have moved, so I might be aswell, removing the shield inside and have a proper look at the motherboard, apart from that I have games working and playing so its not too bad, Thanks everyone..
