A600 sound problem

Been playing around with my A600 recently and i've noticed a problem with the sound.

From the left its working fine but not from the right. Its not the cable as i tried the other jack.

I took a quick look inside and I can't see any corrosion near the caps or leaks. Any idea ?

I'm no technician so I could have easily missed something.

EDIT: There is sound from the Right but it is very faint/Low volume compared to the LEFT.

EDIT2: Upon booting its usually fine from both channels (left and right) but starts getting lower and lower volume on 1 side (RIGHT) after a couple of minutes.
The Right seems to come and go. Sometimes its fine for ages and sometimes it just gets lower and lower and then comes back. Its not totally predicable

Had this same issue on a couple of A600s/1200s in the past. The first thing I check is dry solder joints on the RCA audio out connectors. If in doubt give them a quick zap with a soldering iron to re-flow the solder.

The next thing to do is simply replace the caps - the caps on the a600 are garbage and will definitely be dying/dead by this stage. If you do not feel confidence to replace them yourself (SMDs can be fiddly unlike the much friendlier through holes) get a techy friend to do it for you. Cost of caps for an A600 is like $4.00.

I need somebody to do it for me. There is no way I am going to damage another A600 by attempting a cap replacement.

If it makes a difference the motherboard is a revision 2D.

Hi dougal,

2D is the later revision motherboard and quite common. Revision does not make much difference, in fact from memory all revisions of the A600 use exactly the same cap values.

If you were in Australia I would be happy to do it for you, however as you are in Malta you are best off finding a local fellow keen to help.

You can purchase the caps from any electronics stockist, however if you are uncomfortable chasing the individual cap values, then simply purchase a cap kit ready to go. Amigakit has them - http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1137

Someone with reasonable soldering experience and decent tools will do the entire cap replacement in under an hour, so its not a big job.
