I'll be honest, the fact that the 1200 version dosn't fit into a closed 1200 without cutting a bit off the trapdoor (http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=719911&postcount=893) bothers me a little, it was only designed for 1 computer, and it doesn't fit in the standard configuration with the trapdoor shut, which is well, standard..

:overactor: yeah, I know..

Modify the trapdoor a bit for such a great board ?
Not a problem.

It's OK. You just cut the plastic a bit.

If you are willing to butcher the plastics of your Amiga... I'm not sure I am.

This is stopping me buying one. :(

Little lost here.

So noone has ever owned upgrade cards where the door (lip which isnt even seen) had to be trimmed.

I had to do this on both my A1200's or the door would'nt close.
I would rather the door attached, than off.

I think this trapdoor business has been blown out of all preportion.

So you won't buy one because it means you have to remove a small, functionless piece of plastic that isn't even visible when fitted to the machine?

Come on guys. You don't have to butcher anything it is a small piece underneath NOT VISIBLE so it's not bad to your eyes and besides this is inside the Amiga from the oposite side of the trapdoor. Completely nothing visible.

If it feels bad... you can always DESOLDER the socket and SOCKET the 030 directly to the Accelerator!
Imho, having a socket than triming a bit of a shity plastic that isn't visible anywayz is a lot more important factor!

come on guys ... future amiga hardware development depend on the sales of these boards. dont shy away for some piece of plastic. if not you can also use the miggy with lid open ?

If i could be bothered to get another A1200 then i would still buy one of these boards, but i do think it's a bit of a dissapointing oversight/flaw in the design that could have been avoided. I've been able to close the trapdoor perfectly with all acelerators i've owned over the years. It may not be an issue to some people, but to others it can be seen as an ugly (albeit out of sight) imperfection as the board does not fit as intended wth the cover on.

Also, when are we going to see something new for the A500

It's not open if you trim the plastic. Nobody talked around here about open lid.

I personally have never ran any of my Accel's with the Trapdoor in place. These 030's get Hot too you know! And they will enjoy the fresh air ;)

It is a slightly annoying oversight but I think its more important we have people still developing for the Amiga

And just to say somthing else, with every accel I have owned the trapdoor had never fitted properly, not even with my Blizzard 1230, there is still a slight bulge and with my old Typhoon MK2 it was almost impossible to close.

Maybe Amigakit should sell modified trapdoors with venting for us Accelerator users?

Steve.

granted, it looks very cool and all, but at that price it should be '040.. :(

I hoped new hardware would bring competition in ebay prices and lower them all.

It has, do you not look at ebay? Those sill BIN's have never sold at the prices listed and have been re-listed for the last 6 months.

I think Jens has priced them just right for what they are.

Can't comment any further or Merlin will spank me with his Mod stick...

It would be awesome to see a new 060 Acclelerator for the A1200 though...

Steve.

I'm sure some enterprising person could produce a replacement trap-door cover that does fit and even include some additional cooling slots (although apparently cooling is not needed).

EDIT: Crossed posts with Steve, same idea! :)

Don't forget that when you buy an Individual Computers product, you're buying a brand new board, manufactured this year, complete with a manufacturer's warranty and support. They really are competitively priced.
