Maybe Amigakit should sell modifited trapdoors with venting for us Accelerator users?

Steve.

That would need a massive investment for something which isnt an issue.

Surely getting a little bit of plastic moulded would not be a huge investment?

Anyway - people buy useless tat all the time. I'd buy one ;)

To be fair, there are plenty of options here:
1. Just cut the trapdoor (I guess it's not the end of the world)
2. Solder the CPU direct to the accelerator (If you're mad enough)
3. Get a replacement trapdoor cover and cut that.
4. Mould some plastic to replace your trapdoor cover. (You could make a transparent one! That'd be pretty awesome)
5. Leave the trapdoor off.

With that combination of options, I'm sure there's something to suit everyone.

I've used latex rubber (no comments please:ninja:) and 2-part plastic to reproduce some model railway parts in the past. You could probably use sheet and extruded plastics as well to make a pretty tidy job of a trap door.

ok,

Say we did get a piece of plastic sorted. (Still would need alot of funding)
People would complain and moan that it isnt the same.

This would lead us back to where we are now.
So lets get this right.

People moan about cutting a piece of plastic they cant see.
But they would'nt moan about a custom piece of plastic which is nothing like the original or would be transparent.

I cant view this thread, keeps saying im not logged in.
Anyone else having this issue?

Because you could always remove the accelerator and put the original trapdoor back in place. Both my A1200s are in immaculate condition, I wouldn't feel right cutting them up, even just a little.

I'm confused  Is this the A1200 or A600 being discussed :) or both?

It looks like the trapdoor issue for the A1200 is being discussed in this ACA630 tread - doh! But it does seem this is the main thread discussing the new Accelerators at Amibay.

Hehe A1200 A600 whatever :D.

I can see FOL's point. Creating a master of the simplest form can cost £1000's, then there's the cost of manufacture. packaging etc. You could probably get pretty close to the original design though.

I too would be reluctant to cut a piece of my A1200 case, but I don't think I'll be buying one of these accelerators anyway as it doesn't have SCSI, or does it?.

I like AndyLandy's idea of a clear cover and you can buy clear 2 part liquid plastic or resin. Phantom could even get one made in black! :)

The small unimportant piece of plastic that has to be cut away is no major undertaking. It's easy to do and there is no downside to it at all. The socket still has more value than this small modifaction. So when mine comes I will have no problem cutting it up. And I won't even do that. You can just take a pair of pliers and twist parts of the plastic off for the length of the CPU. Then use a file for the rough edges.

This is stopping me buying one. :(

So you won't buy one because it means you have to remove a small, functionless piece of plastic that isn't even visible when fitted to the machine?

On my A1200, yup! I have a pristine box with a lovely white A1200. Anything I have done to her has always been reversible.

I'm not saying this is a 'huge' issue, but just something that doesn't work for me atm. Hopefully if there is a rev2, this will be sorted.

I think these cards are great and I love the fact new amiga hardware is being developed and should be supported :)

Wow this thread has lurched into life again!!

Sounds like a shame the need to trim the trap door but I am sure Jen's has his reasons for designing it this way,

I hope this doesn't put people off buying this product - I feel it is a minor details, and if we don't support people like Jen's then Classic Amiga really will become a stale static museum piece :(

If you want a A1200 accelerator from Jens, buy it, and trim the beast, no one will know!! :shhh::thumbsup:

K,

I think posts need to be moved to a new thread.

Can a mod sort it please, as people are getting confused now, as its drifted off into an A1200 thread.

To clarify, we are talking about the A1200 Accelerator, NOT THE A600.
A600 accelerator doesnt need trapdoor to be modded.

I am a bit disappointed that the date's slipped again and some slight modding is needed, but the way I'm seeing it is - looking after retro hardware would be boring if it was easy :)

Atleast we know the hardware exists and is real, :).

Is there going to be a note about the trapdoor slot on your website and in the box? :) Might be best to email anyone that has pre-ordered too.

@Tajmaster

Yes, there is already a note about the trapdoor needing a slight modification on our webstore on the product description.

@Helllabs
We will start shipping them on the day they arrive so no delay.
