@stachu100 you must replace the pictures and the description in your first post. You are not allowed to modify things like that in your sales thread

@veper I hope you'll get what you've paid for..

Thread has been reported to the mods.

Dear All,

This time its's me, real stachu100.

Yes, my stachu100 account was hacked.
I'm sorry for all the problems/bad surprise.

I will check all PM's activity that hacker caused.

Lession learned - even strong password if used the same on another sites/forums and NOT CHANGED from time to time may cause BIG problems.

Regards,
Stan

Thanks for the info Stan. Unfortunately the hacker was somehow able to convince admins that your account was not hacked and that "fact" was the basis on which I've sent the funds.

Hi @veper

I understand your frustration and I'm really sorry about that.
Once I have got the message on my real e-mail that my e-mail adress on Amibay account was changed; I immediately informed Admins via Amibay contact form that my account was hacked.
And informed few people I was having the e-mail to block this accout.

This is all I could do...

I'm checking with Admins what to do with all the threads created by hacker.

About the funds - I'm afraid that if you have sent them by PayPal as "for family and friends", you can only ask PayPal for support.
I'm sorry for that.

I’ll admit that I carried out some basic checks and was happy with the answers I received.

The problem wasn’t helped by the use of a vpn by the scammer.

Hi @Watson,

My real e-mail account was not hacked.

Once I have yesterday received the automatic message on my real e-mail that someone changed the e-mail on stachu100 account - I knew that it will not end well, so I have contacted Admins via contact form informing that my Amibay account was hacked because new e-mail address is not mine.

And I also informed few people to aware Admins.

The key here was to block (or at least postpone) immediate e-mail change.

I know that Amibay is not as well secured as Google or Facebook. So having my data from other forum/ website (login, password, e-mail, date of birth, country), the access to get the account is easy.

Unfortunately these data are often required during registration. Even here on Amibay.

And if such database will be hacked, the hackers can try to use such credentials on other plaftorm with hope of luck of sucessfull login.

@stachu100 have you now fully regained control of your email account?
And I have also e-mailed today morning to your wife as we've had a deal recently and the money transfer from me to you was on her PayPal account.
With a message to you as an Admin about my account hacked.

So I really tried to do my best.

I spotted this 7:30 am today but had to go to work but i spammed the admin group and @comraider to the rescue and shut the scammer down by 8am

Its a shame some of the buyers didn’t know you @stachu100 as you’re posts where completely out of character

It can be. Activate double authentification with roll code and Authentificator.

@veper check if the credit card associated with your PayPal account offers any fraud protection or if you could possibly claim a chargeback? I am sure admins here could provide you with sufficient evidence of a hacked account to support your claim. Hope you get this resolved in your favor somehow.

I don't think this comment is really fair, as it was not only the buyers that didn't know stachu100 well enough it seems.

stachu100 is someone who is well respected at Amibay with ~400 positive feedbacks (100% rate) and me being a member here for 10+ years, you get to "know" the trusted members, even if you haven't interacted with them a lot (or at all). The ad itself was - at least to me - normal. The asking price was okay, could be higher, but could be lower for someone that wants to make a quick deal as well. It offered PP F&F or SEPA transfer payment, nothing unusual for the ads at Amibay. What made me suspicious was the hurry the seller was in to get paid. So I did a mini due dilligence with a couple of questions via PM about recapping, etc, and the seller's answers were prompt and correct, not something a casual scammer manages to do as per my experience (so at least the scammer knows a thing or two about retro computers or maybe they were just very quick at asking AI). Still not convinced, I checked out other stachu100's sales threads, and that's where I noticed another member questioning the legitimacy of the seller in question.

However, one of Amibay admins confirmed in that thread: "To be clear - nobodys account had been hacked after investigation." To me, that was the confirmation that I can go ahead and make the payment. I would dare to send money to the real stachu100 as "friends & family" 10 out of 10 times, as I believe you can equal someone you share a platform with for so long and is well respected by the community basically as "friend". The only problem here was that his account was hacked, so we were tricked to believe we're sending the money to "the real stachu100" Paypal address. If the thread was started by a new(ish) member or the legitimacy of stachu100 was not confirmed by the admin, I for sure wouldn't transfer the funds as F&F.

I want to point out I'm intentionally not naming the admin in question here in my reply, as I believe he's a good admin/moderator who is doing a good job (and even saved me once from the rogue seller years ago if I recall correctly). Everyone makes mistakes occasionally and this time it was a few of us who paid the price. I still think Amibay is one of the best if not the best place to buy/sell retro gear at.

To conclude, considering all of the information above, I don't think we the buyers did something very wrong on our end. The seller's reputation was immaculate, the ad was nothing out of the ordinary, the scammer answered my questions correctly and admin confirmed the account hasn't been hacked...

It's not entirely his fault. He is always there, so it's natural that it happened to him.
I don’t want to speak on behalf of others because they remain silent for a reason, but when someone is in a rush at 3 a.m. with 4 “heavy” sale threads, something is definitely going on, no matter what price he is selling for.
Everybody has 24 hours to pay by the rules, so let's stick on that when in doubt, until we find a way to prevent this from happening again.

Are you implying that we shouldn't trust admins here anymore?
