Its a shame some of the buyers didn’t know you
@stachu100 as you’re posts where completely out of character
I don't think this comment is really fair, as it was not only the buyers that didn't know stachu100 well enough it seems.
stachu100 is someone who is well respected at Amibay with ~400 positive feedbacks (100% rate) and me being a member here for 10+ years, you get to "know" the trusted members, even if you haven't interacted with them a lot (or at all). The ad itself was - at least to me - normal. The asking price was okay, could be higher, but could be lower for someone that wants to make a quick deal as well. It offered PP F&F or SEPA transfer payment, nothing unusual for the ads at Amibay. What made me suspicious was the hurry the seller was in to get paid. So I did a mini due dilligence with a couple of questions via PM about recapping, etc, and the seller's answers were prompt and correct, not something a casual scammer manages to do as per my experience (so at least the scammer knows a thing or two about retro computers or maybe they were just very quick at asking AI). Still not convinced, I checked out other stachu100's sales threads, and that's where I noticed another member questioning the legitimacy of the seller in question.
However, one of Amibay admins confirmed in that thread: "To be clear - nobodys account had been hacked after investigation." To me, that was the confirmation that I can go ahead and make the payment. I would dare to send money to the real stachu100 as "friends & family" 10 out of 10 times, as I believe you can equal someone you share a platform with for so long and is well respected by the community basically as "friend". The only problem here was that his account was hacked, so we were tricked to believe we're sending the money to "the real stachu100" Paypal address. If the thread was started by a new(ish) member or the legitimacy of stachu100 was not confirmed by the admin, I for sure wouldn't transfer the funds as F&F.
I want to point out I'm intentionally not naming the admin in question here in my reply, as I believe he's a good admin/moderator who is doing a good job (and even saved me once from the rogue seller years ago if I recall correctly). Everyone makes mistakes occasionally and this time it was a few of us who paid the price. I still think Amibay is one of the best if not the best place to buy/sell retro gear at.
To conclude, considering all of the information above, I don't think we the buyers did something very wrong on our end. The seller's reputation was immaculate, the ad was nothing out of the ordinary, the scammer answered my questions correctly and admin confirmed the account hasn't been hacked...
