Amiga 500 boot problem

Hi, my A 500 has been dry stored for years and on boot up last week was loading workbench and games,now however on loading workbench disc I get a message saying Battery Backed up Clock not found, where do I go from here,could it be a Battery issue on motherboard

Yes, check to see if there is a battery in the trapdoor .. if so then the chances are that it's died whilst in storage. Hopefully it hadn't leaked everywhere but it should be removed ASAP..

The message about the clock not found is probably being generated by a command in the startup-sequence file located in the S folder. If it annoys you, you can edit the file and remove it. Save the file afterwards then reboot after a couple of seconds.
 
this is normal for a stock A500 1.2 - 1.3

they never came with a clock/battery until the A500+ 2.04

this usually was fitted on some addon trapdoor ram expansions to boost normally an A500 from 512k to 1mb with a battery backup clock.. the more cost reduced expansions just came with the ram and empty pads for the clock circuit.

The workbench disk was also designed to boot a stock A2000 which did come with a battery,

its not important and you would probably never need or use it unless your running home finance programs that rely on time/date etc.
