Ah yes. That explains it. I bought my wife an ipod nano 7th gen to sweeten my negotiations about getting yet another huge "hunk of junk" but your mileage may vary :)

Mendel - utterly amazing. I would love a cab but stick to a supergun for now until I am rich :)

Anyway I have a question - didn't capcom boards (or some of them) have suicide batteries on their arcade boards?

Was that a problem for you with this board?

Sega also did this, with some of their boards. Most of Capcoms are quite easy to get fixed these days :)

CPS1 games such as Street Fighter 2 Champion edition fortunately do not have suicide batteries. Later Capcom systems do.

Got message from Viletim saying that basically any amiga rgb scart cable should work with his scart to jamma adapter.

Also I have a 2xrca to nvs-4000 cable so for video and audio I should soon be able to get amiga stuff on cabinet.

Now I just would need to figure out how to wire up an amiga joystick to a jamma fingerboard so that I could also play with the cab controls :)

I´ll post a pic as soon as I have some kind of amiga picture on the cab screen

Okay. Came from work this morning and decided to do this one thing before I go to sleep. In the middle of a night shift week but I have to do stuff other than work to stay sane. So, time for a fun little fan change project that I´ve been planning for a while! All the parts are here, so here I go!

papst1.jpg

CPS2 Alien vs Predator phoenix edition. May be a conversion. Haven´t checked. The real problem is the fan noise.

papst4.jpg

Here is the main villain. Noisy cps2 a-board fan.

papst5.jpg

Shipment from Aquatuning to the rescue!

papst2.jpg

So... off go the clips that hold the a board and b board together.

papst3.jpg

Here are the boards, now separated

papst8.jpg

So here´s the replacement fan: a Papst 612fl. Also needed is a special screwdriver head

papst24.jpg

And while I didnt have a screwdriver where to fit this head, anything that gives a bit of torque will do. Space is not an issue here

papst9.jpg

The cover lifted up after screwing off all 4 screws

papst10.jpg

The fan is old and dirty. It comes off by just lifting it off its "tracks"

papst11.jpg

So then... of course I cant just put the other fan in. The plugs aren´t the same.

papst12.jpg

So I just cut the cables, molexes won´t be needed, strip the cables a bit from their ends.

papst13.jpg

Then I like to add liberal amounts of shrinkwrap there, putting it at the ready before soldering the wires. Keeping it far enough so as not to shrink it yet.

papst14.jpg

Then I kind of wrap the wires together.

papst15.jpg

Like this...

papst16.jpg

And then for the part where my hands start shaking...

papst17.jpg

Soldering the wires together! Simple task for most people, big deal to my shaky hands.

papst18.jpg

The results, well... Not pretty, but they´re stuck together, damnit. That´s what counts!
They will probably conduct electricity too!

papst19.jpg

So I then slide the shrinkwrap on top of the soldered parts. I have only two hands so I´m not taking photo of the part where I put a burning match near the shrinkwrap :)

papst20.jpg

After burning two matches, the shrinkwrap has shrunk. It will stay put.

papst21.jpg

So it is time to slide the new fan in there!

papst22.jpg

It fits like a glove!

papst23.jpg

Better remember to put the plug back in too.

papst25.jpg

And then its just a matter of putting everything back together...

papst26.jpg

With cover, screws and the little clips connected, it is time for a comparison video!

Here you can hear the dramatic difference between a stock CPS2 fan and Papst 612fl:

Now I just would need to figure out how to wire up an amiga joystick to a jamma fingerboard so that I could also play with the cab controls :)

Do let me know when you figure out how to connect the joystick port AND simulate keyboard presses, so you can map '1 player' -> F1 and 'button 2' to space, etc :)

i find it easiest to solder wires together if i rest the wire on the iron and let that heat up then press the solder to the wire so the hot wire melts the solder and not the soldering iron.

it will flow better in to the wire then.

Keep the pics coming is always good to see pron.

Put flux on the wires and just touch the blob of solder on the soldering iron to the wires. The flux will suck in the solder, leaving a perfect job

Only Amiga makes it possible!
turrican2.png

I just took a couple pics as soon as I had any kind of picture on screen.
Little bit of screen adjustment to do...
Didn´t want to adjust screen now as I´m going to be putting the Alien vs Predator back in there cause I don´t have any Amiga joystick hack for the cabinet controls... yet :)

awesome thread! damn you Mendel now I want an arcade cabinet too

Ah well, what can I say. It´s nice to be featured in the starting post of a new quotes thread

Just ought of curiosity's sake: you bought her from Russia? Interested in get a replacement for my own wife.

You know what it´s like to remove and insert kickstart roms on Amiga motherboards. Well, I had a lot of practise doing similar thing because the game would always crash when I got to the boss of level 6

crash11.jpg

I first tried detaching and re-attaching all 15 rom chips on the motherboard.

When that didn´t help, I sent the 4 program roms that are most likely to be at fault to Razoola of cps2shock.emu-france.info and he determined that one of them was very bad indeed.

I might get working roms back later this week.

edit: problem gone after re-burning the roms :)

Snes in a cab will probably be nice once I get some padhacks for that as well.
