After 20 years , I've finally got around to writting another adventure game. On the mac , inform 7 - kindly pointed out to me on here.

No structure to the game I'm just playing with it at the mo

but if I don't make a hash of it , I'll pop it here or provide a link for you all to pull it to bits :-)

I wanted to write on the Amiga but I'm having trouble finding something to write one with.

I have the following to play with at some point and maybe I will but as usual I have no manuals :-(
Seuck
blitz basic
Amos
Amos 3d

but my greatest love is adventure games really ,

Hello, i've got few .pdf files and .adf support files for blitz basic 2 if you want...

If you will decide on AMOS, then choose AMOS Pro. A good alternative is of course Blitz Basic 2.

Ignore SEUCK, just suxx.

yes any PDf would be very welcomed :-)

i dont like seuck really , besides i dont like shoot em ups for a start!

adventure, strategy were always my thing - i like to think , although the fog of age is making thinking harder , spelling more difficult and getting of the sofa impossible!

most of the amiga stuff is on ADF so its easily acquired but of course no manuals..

If you like adventures then you can try GRAAL here.

I used to have a program in the old days, which you could write your own text-adventures only, but I don't recall its name; maybe Visionary? something like that.

yes thanks, i have GRAAL too , but im just working on text at the moment ...

- visionary? i dont know that one ...

there are a few text creators on aminet but the need compiling and i must admit im finding inform 7 fun to play with ....i wonder if we could get stuff over to the Amiga with it

Yes, it was Visionary, but it was commercial. Quite good and easy-to-use.

i'll have a look for that thank you :-)

---------- Post added at 12:00 ---------- Previous post was at 11:52 ----------

ive been reading another forum - someone asked , whats best or easiest tool for writing a text adventure...

well as the forum goes on and on - page 1,2,3,4,5,.... by page 6 they are almost fighting about who's basic is best! lol :-)

life too short to argue!

I've attached an example I rewrote from a Toshiba MSX game.

This was done over 15 years ago

Ignore the programming skills - I just needed to convert the game for my two daughters to play on the Amiga when I decided to flog my MSX.

You need to copy the font in the fonts drawer into your system fonts.

Load the program up in Amos_Pro and run it.

As per normal with any software package I can't promise this won't harm your Miggy but it works fine on mine.

Unpack the zip file to create the adf.

thank you Davideo thats very kind of you , i'll fire a miggy up soon and try that.

:-)

did your daughters like it?

Yes - that's why I had to rewrite it on the Miggy.

I found Amiga Basic tooooooo slow for anything like this.

I'd got Amos free on a cover disc and decided to give that a try.

I wrote several programs with it, i.e. a Video SubTitler, HI-Lo card game, Hangman etc.

Had quite a fun time with it IIRC :D

Just as an alternative have you ever played with TinyMUCK or the like?

It's a Multi-user text adventure system where you build the world around you in real-time. Also has its own language, MUF (multi-user Forth) built-in to handle complex stuff.

Not sure if it ever got ported to the Amiga but i think it did end up on Apple and PC as well as most Unix type os's.

Had great fun with it in the late 80's and early 90's :-)

i think i have Amos pro on ADf too so'll pop that on,.

i wonder if inform 7 stuff can be played on an Z machine interpreter on the miggy?

well done Mr Davideo , im trying something kind of similar

---------- Post added at 15:15 ---------- Previous post was at 14:31 ----------

is Amos the creator any good?

AMOS the Creator was the first attempt of STOS to Amiga. AMOS Pro, while it seems more difficult, it's not, and it's the latest AMOS version ever released.

It's actually exactly the same as the original on the MSX. Even down to the colours and (poor) graphics.

The adf is part one - it comes in four parts!!!

I did a chess board puzzle (you have to move the knight onto each sqaure) with Amos. I'm now redoing that in C. I've nearly got it finished - I just need to sort out the double buffering and a couple of other little bits and then it's done.

To be honest Amos is a hell of a lot easier than C

so Amos pro is the only one worth bothering with?

---------- Post added at 15:20 ---------- Previous post was at 15:18 ----------

im impressed Dave, i wish i had had manuals for stuff back in the day , im sure it would be easier than now , my beer soaked brian is considerably slower than when i was 15

East Amos is supposed to be easier - that's double dutch but I guess you can see what I mean!!

The program I posted earlier will only run on AMos Pro.
