I can't remember where I read it but aren't some TI Chips not compatable due to voltage i.e., being 3.3v

The 3.3V shouldn’t matter. Lots of people use this CPU on the A2386 and on the GG without issues.
yes but is it a 5v or a 3.3v version I'm sure I read this in another bridgeboard thread

I really need to give my Goldengate 486SLC2 50 some love I've not had as much time lately and the hot summer months have made it a bit unbearable in the mancave. I too have the monitor master, great peace of equipment if you can find one. Noticed in the other thread @trixster you mentioned about a diamond star Video card did you ever get it to work with yours?
@Dragonheart are you able to replace the original CPU, I know its a pain and not everyone has the skill to pop CPUs on and off ( I always have to phone a friend
to do this for me) but least you can confirm if the CPU is the issue.

However, I have found that an ET4000 is pretty much the fastest you can get, and was somewhat faster than even a Mach64. Worth getting one of these as it makes a measurable improvement in performance for stuff like Doom that really benefit from a fast framebuffer

Oh that's a shame I have a diamond star with mine but not done much testing but it does function, that ET4000 looks interesting but I bet they are also hard to obtain
I noticed you upgraded your GG to a TI and have some speed increases too I have kept mine original for now
I have two broken A2386 boards which I'm hoping I will get looked at some day and try for an upgrade on these

The issue has been solved.
The GoldenGate software (glib.library) used Autoconfig IDs to detect whether a 386 or 486 version of the board was plugged in. If you changed the 386 cpu to 486 the software would complain:
"Cannot find GoldenGate-486" which is true, since that board ID isn't present.
This glib.library is patched so it detects the 386 board as a 486 board, and then the software and bridgeboard works fine.
This version can ONLY be used on such a modified GoldenGate 386SX board.

Yes - it’s a bit unstable though once I enable clock doubling to 50 MHz. Might be the CPU or my RAM sticks, but in general… yes, it starts and works.
Good news that it works! Remember to keep the fpu removed, it won’t work at 50mhz. Also check your 5v line - the GG will become unstable if this is too low. In my A3000 anything below around 4.65v starts to cause problems
Ram should be 60ns - try one simm at once
That won’t work as it’s lacking HALT.
You still have to remove the CPU and solder in a new one
Now this is interesting and possibly helpful! I also have a GG386 which is upgraded with a 486SXLC2-50 but I've never really gotten it to work. Not in any of my A2000's or my A4000.
I had the CPU swap done by "hese" and at the same time he installed a voltage stepdown regulator 5V --> 3,3V, so the hardware should be top notch. Hese did say he got it working on his test rig but I've only once gotten the BIOS boot screen come up. 99% of the time I get the error 90 (coldboot) but I'll give this patched library a go when I have the time.

See when using it with your A4000 just be aware that the goldengate is fussy about the accelerator card used with it, well I know it is not compatible with the Cyberstorm MK1
The first time I tried the GG I was using a regular A3640. After that I upgraded the accelerator with 040 --> 060 adapter and a rev1 68060. It was a no go with either of them.
I've since upgraded to a Stachu serviced and upgraded Cyberstorm PPC, but I haven't gotten around to testing the GG again. So yeah, I really hope this patch works!
Yup, I always turn cpu caches off begore starting digger or gg.
I've also tried your trick of copying the GG software to RAM and starting from there, but that didn't help for me. I'm fairly excited about testing this new patched library but I just need to find the time and energy to start testing again. So many projects and so little time.

Yes, I got the card working after the modification but can't recall if it was on A2000, A3000 or A4000. GoldenGate cards can be very frustrating to get running.
