hard disk problem

Problem number one:

HD partitions can never use the directory cache option! Period!

Using directory cache you'll make it corrupted in a very small using time.

Partitions with validation issues will report as full until the validation process is done. Since the Amiga don't fix it at boot time you need to use a tool to fix it.

Only Disk Salv 4 (using the salvage option) & Quarterback Tools are able to fix it in no time.

After fixing the partition, move all data to another place, erase the partition and re-create it without directory caching!

Hi landoq

Perhaps you have a problem with the hard disk, is a new one or is some years old? You can format it again and copy some files to and from hard disk if tha hard disk fail again it's probably because a faulty hard disk, try another one and test it.

the hard disk and computer are new.

@landoq

- HDD..... is IDE or SCSI?

If IDE:

- Connected to tie onboard IDE?
- How much longer is the cable?

If SCSI:

- Is onboard SCSI or another board?
- Your check to correct ID's and the bus termination?

Cheers

@landoq

Hi again.

Well, is a 1Gb SCSI drive. So, I think is a SCSI-II unit, right?

Connected to the integrated SCSI controller of the CPU board.... Fine.. :)

Is a CS MK-I, MK-II, PPC... or maybe GVP?

If you want help, you need to explain more your request m8 :thumbsup:

Cheers

So, I think is a "pure" SCSI-II....

Test the next:

- Cable
- SCSI ID of the HDD
- Termination at the drive and at the end of the SCSI bus.

Recommendations:

- HDD: ID 1, Termination Power ON
- End fo the SCSI bus. Active SE or LVD/SE (with one adapter) terminator

Last: If you don't use.... Try dissabling the onboard SCSI controller

Cheers

i test the cable and id number. the requester tell me work partition has a checksum error on disk block 1025010. :-(

i have no problem in loss data , i have backup cdrom.

Hi

Can you explain how your SCSI chain is made? How many SCSI devices do you have connected to it? Is termination ON in the last device in the chain?

i have one only unit: the hard drive.

the system boots the 3.1 system partition, but the work partition have problems.

@landoq

OK, reading your last post...

Maybe you have something wrong in partitions.

I think is better to delete all partitions and reconfigure the drive. Also is a good idea to use one tool like FixHDDSize (Aminet) to get the correct configuration of cylinders/heads/.... and save to the HDD.

Try with one config like this:

- DH0: from XXX to 472MB FFS, NO DirCache
- DH1: The rest of available space

Ok, Do you have another HD or CD connected to the onboard IDE or SCSI?

Ok, Do you have another HD or CD connected to the onboard IDE or SCSI?

not, i have 1 only scsi hard drive connected to the turbocard. The motherboard scsi controller haven´t units connected.

I formatted the partition and installed the applications and games again.

likewise thanks for the info ;)

@landoq

Hi again m8 :thumbsup:

Reformat is a good idea, but if you use the same size partitions and "Quick Format"... Maybe you have problems in the future.

I think the best is to "clear" all RDB information, create new partitions with different sizes and "Quick Format"

Cheers
