Hi, I joined this site to find some 3dfx cards. I want to collect every 3dfx card ever made eventually, even the rampage prototypes if I can ever get my hands on some of those BGA chips. I have a voodoo 5 agp currently, a voodoo 2 sli setup and I'm looking to get a voodoo 3 3000 pci and a voodoo 5 5500 pci at the same time if possible.

I am learning to program, hardware and software, because I want to become some kind of computer technician, and I have a few hardware and (my own) operating system ideas. My programming knowledge will be extensive, not just limited to games, but I feel that games are some of the best tools to use to communicate many messages to the masses of people because they can reflect real life in a realistic way. I like 3dfx cards despite them being defunct, because they are rock solid, and I believe most games (even in today's over-powered and over-priced GPU arena) should just be really simple and plain because "Crysis" and other games like it are just overkill just to tell a simple story. That's not not to say those 2007-present day games don't have a purpose, but it's just that I believe most messages can be conveyed through simplistic and low-level coding of video games and I wish to use the ancient 3dfx hardware and the like to provide the lowest common denominator of compatibility.

Of course if you would like to PM me about this stuff you may...

hmm forum is weird...

Welcome! good luck in your quest :)

I myself own a pair of 12MB Voodoo 2's running in SLI and a Voodoo 5 5500 AGP. I'm planning to hold on to them though as I still use them for old games

You will have your work cut out for you getting one of every 3dfx card. If you ever get your hands on a Voodoo 6000 be sure to post it here. :)

Orchid righteous was my 2nd 3d card, my 1st was a PowerVr and it sucked big time.

got my 3DFX 4mb (wahoo) and never looked back, tombraider, need3speedSE etc never looked to good,

Welcome.

I still have an original 3DFX 4Mb Voodoo with the pass-through and a 12Mb Gainward Voodoo 2 card. I have owned a Voodoo 3 1000 and 2000 in PCI flavour in the past, but that was a long time ago.

Welcome!

ok so i posted in the "wanted" section. Great!

So my thing with 3dfx is, despite them being a greedy-bastahd company that wanted to hog all of their vendor partner's profits for themselves by buying out the STB PCB-manufacturing company, their strive to control the 3d market with propriety and overly-expensive hardware DID actually produce some of the most rock solid, well supported (even to this day, the fans still release new drivers) drivers and hardware ever seen in the computer industry. Games that required you to have a 3dfx card to use the hardware acceleration (in this case glide, of course) did kinda screw over the people who didn't have the money to buy a 3dfx card, but all this DID actually produce something great out of 3dfx. But look, all these damn card companies are greedy and profit hogging, and don't wanna do the right thing for the industry (those companies as a whole I mean)... so I can't say it was all 3dfx's fault because look at what n****ia (nvidia) did with phys-x company!

I think we can all agree that whatever the industry throws at us, from the craptastic games like crysis3 and all the other ones that provide merely short-lived and power-hungry eye candy without any substance or redeemable storyline whatsover... we can always turn the tables on whatever is presented to us and make it a good thing. I like 3dfx cards because they DID produce the world's BEST quality CONSUMER hardware the world has EVER seen. I like glide too, because it's based on OpenGL but it's quick, and with a voodoo 5 you can always program the t-buffer effects (depth of field, motion-blur, anti-aliasing, FXT1 texture compression etc) into your own game engine! And that's kinda what I want to do... program t-buffer effects into a new game engine and display the capabilities of the late 3dfx cards... and also so i can make sure anyone who owns a computer fast enough to keep up with today's internet requirements can also play my games. Kinda like minecraft but obviously better looking

Welcome.

I'm a 3dfx lover too.
I was planning a Voodoo Banshee with my first PC but could not afford it, later i got several Voodoo 3 and loved them.
Unfortunately, these boards were no more ahead of the curve by that time compared to the competition.
