Hey

There are some locks that can't be opened from the top. Knowing whirlpool this would be one. So we now know the pump is not blocked.

Right if you can locate the vacuum switch we can release the tube. Most machines this looks like a round disc, but on others the shape can vary. It will have a very tiny tube attached to it. Maybe you can take photos of the top and the back if you can't see it? If its the round disc version they tend to be at the top, the other versions tend to sit somewhere near the motor at the bottom. If we can release that tube we know its not the vacuum.

So its not blocked as you can blow down the grey pipe. That leaves 3 things imo.

1) Vacuum is blocked so its telling the machine its full of water.
2) The lock itself wont release so the lock is broken
this one is pretty rare but the 3rd is the programmer itself that is not sending the information to the door lock.

This is a vacuum switch on an old Hotpoint, underneath it has a little tube attached.

It might look different on yours. Apart from this there is not much more that can be added I don't think. But saying that it has been a long time since I was a repair man :) I am sure the insides have changed a lot over the years.

One more thing to add, can you see the wires going to the door lock? These also tend to get brittle and snap.

Other then that its very hard to see the problem without actually seeing the machine. For me anyway

@Jimbo1979

Are the door latch sensors just a switch (like a limit switch?) that can be bypassed by temporarily connecting the wires together?

Remove the tube from the disc thingy and check that it's not blocked. That's what Jimbo was on about.

Hey,

Yeap you just remove the tube from the round disc. Then wait 2 mins and try the door again.

If it still wont open its down to the programmer or door latch itself.

Putting the wires together from the door catch won't help as this will not be powering the catch to remove the lock. All putting the wires together will do is tell the machine the door is shut (not what we need).

Sorry I can't help any further but the pump and vacuum are the first things that get checked before going to the door catch itself as it gets the info from the other parts you are now checking.

Cheers

Also to check the disc vacuum you somehow need to attach something to it you can blow down, so you blow into the actual disc. You will hear a spring rise (the air makes the spring go up when machine is filling) After you have blown air into it and heard the spring rise, you should then hear the same spring release as the air drops out. If not thats the problem, you will have to suck on it till the spring is down (sounds rude I know) Then it will be in the empty position. Power on and it should open (wait 2 mins)

Good idea is to remove the disc (be careful of the wires) blow down it a few times so you can hear the spring engaging. Stick it back on with pipe, power machine on and then also see if door releases.

After all that, still wont open. My guess has to be the catch itself. This makes it tricky without seeing the actual door catch. Hard to get at as well.

I have also opened a thread for you here like Merlin said:

@ inoel

It's like I said in the thread about the subject; the amount of l33t skillz on here is amazing. Glad you managed to repair it.

I can recommend this link, that explains lots of machines in simple terms? Tim Hunkin has helped me fix lots of machines through his videos over the years...
