I have just bought a DVD-Rom drive to replace the ancient CD-Rom drive in my A4000, mainly because it's a lot shallower so won't sit right up against the PSU inside. The old drive is a 4x Mitsumi drive connected to my Tandem IDE card. According to IDEFix, it is installed as 'tandemat.device.' When I disconnect the drive, at startup I get a 'tandemat.device not found' error message. I haven't tried connecting the new DVD-Rom drive yet, but will I be able to just plug my new drive in to the Tandem IDE card and it will work? Or do I need to uninstall IDEFix and then re-install? I'm running ClassicWB 3.1.

connect the drive and run the `Find Device` program in the IDEFix folder if it sees it select it and click `USE`, I dont think you will need to alter the settings in the CD0 script like unit or device as you are doing a direct replacement

Look in the Devs: drawer for a CD icon.

I believe this is what is throwing the message up at you as it will stored within the icon the settings for your old drive.

You could just move it to Storage: and see what happens when you reboot.

If you don't get the message - install your new drive.

as other have said bud,just remove the cd0 icon from devs/dosdrivers

although im sure the icon could be edited to look elsewhere for the new drive.

OK, so I've removed the CD0 icon from Devs/DosDrivers and no longer get the warning, so that's part 1 sorted. I have attached the new drive and run Find Device in the IDEFix97 folder. It finds the drive on tandemat.device, but when I click 'use' nothing happens, and it doesn't read CDs. I'm guessing I need to create a new CD0 file in Devs somehow, but how?

Drag the CD0 back in to the Devs/Dos Drivers drawer it should work with no probs

if you have problems run `FindDevice` and note down the `UNIT` number and the `DEVICE`

then click on the CD0 icon select Information from the drop down menu and ADD or change the Settings that are there
I.E (press Return after each change)

UNIT= 1
DEVICE= Tandemat.device

Excellent, that did the trick :) My old CD-Rom was set as Unit 0. Thanks all for your help.
