Hi All. I'm building a micro atx pc (Just for Amiga emulation only) and I will install KX Light from the Amiga Forever CD. However How do I get the hard-drive to be read/write and not read only. You see I want Amiga Forever to load from the hard-drive and not from the CD (Which it will always do. Does anyone have a answer to the problem

Mike..

Hi Mike,

There's some info on the Amiga Forever web site.

http://www.amigaforever.com/kxlight/installation/

...there are also some other KXlight references on that web page, on the left hand menu bar at the bottom.

Cheers,
Ed.

I've been there, but it don't help me. You see when you install KXlight it defaults the hard-drive to read only, so Amiga Forever only loads up from the DVD, which is a pain in the butt. I want the hard-drive to be read/write (Compact Flash in my case), so I can to copy the DVD to my hard-drive..

Anyone know what the commands on the KXlight prompt is, to make the drive write too, as I did find the info once but lost it (Darn I should have printed it out then).....

Regard's..

If you are running Windows Vista or above, you need to right click the WinUAE (or whatever they have in Amiga Forever) and click "Run As Administrator", hard drives should then be read/write I believe

I think he means the software sets the Harddisks to Read Only to protect whatever OS is installed and you run the software from a bootable cd/dvd

he wants to copy the cd/dvd to a bootable harddisk and change the settings to read/write, so he doesn't need the cd/dvd anymore and can make changes/save files etc to harddisk.

:Doh::lol:

I found out how to do it (To get the Forever DVD to boot from the pc hard-drive, and not the DVD)...

To get the installed Amiga Forever un-write protected, this is what i did, just reinstalled it 5 mins ago and worked.Let it load, then at workbench screen to get to the bash prompt, ctrl alt back space, i held the shift key and not sure if it was f1 or f2 .. around there anyhow it got me to the bash prompt (if it could be not seen)
init 2
cd /
cd /
cd /
cd /
chown -R knoppix:knoppix /Amiga/dir
chmod -R +w /Amiga/dir
init 5
it should reboot into workbench and write protect should be off. i just did the cd / 4 or 5 times to get to the root dir and that seemed to fix the prob of entering the commands.

Hi Buddy
Any chance of a video of it booting into Amiga forever?

I have just been bribed into buying the new version well $9.99 for both Amiga forever 2013 and C64 2013 not much of a bribe more of a no brainer LOL.:thumbsup:

got to love those seasonal offers

Must Admit I bought the package as well looking to make a dual boot Forever desktop for gaming and Pro Tracker and AROS for more development.

When I created the disk and booted it up first time I got a blank workbench

What did I do wrong ??
