Regarding Vista, I personally liked it and ran the 64bit Ultimate edition as my main IS for some time before upgrading to Win 7 64bit Ultimate. Never had too many issues with it, although Windows 7 is more stable and seems to have completely removed most driver issues. It is the first M$ OS where installing an OS automatically finds most hardware without your intervention.

Same here my friend, although mine was x86 version, never had any problems with it.

I once called M$ to cancel a monthly Xbox live subscription. You couldnt do it online at the time, you HAD to phone... It was also cheaper to pay for the codes / card thingies and I wasnt really using it anyways.
The asshole on the other end of the phone (Cocky young sounding guy with an american accent) put me through the usual patronising routein and then asked 'Can I ask why your cancelling?' to which I replied, 'I'm not using it much and I cant really afford it'. He responded in a very undermining tone, 'you cant afford £5 a month? really?' and proceeded to try to talk me into not cancelling. JUST CANCEL IT FFS!

Now this was before you could do it online and it put me off ever tying a card to their service again for a long time. It was probably just some cocky kid that just got the job and was feeling big headded as hes working for Microsoft, but really, these are the kind of people M$ employ to look after their customers?

Ohhh no, that's not some isolated twerp, that's standard phone-support procedure for a lot of companies - never let them cancel if you can help it, badger them into buying a lot of upsells, etc. That's one reason I didn't last long in DSL support, they kept wanting me to try and upsell customers on weaksauce branded antivirus software, faster connections, etc. even when they were only calling to get their connection fixed! I didn't do it, and they weren't entirely happy about that.

Well kudos to you John for sticking it to the man, going against the grain, and raging against the machine, , It's good to know some people are above such corporate sell-outs.

I honestly feel he could have been more polite about it though. Making your customers not feel like ever using a card again isnt the best corporate strategy.

Never had much problems with activation, even on the phone.
This girl, cause she sounded very young, who helped me just asked right away what I had and said to me that it was a genuine Windows XP Professional OEM License and said after I hang up you will hear the code.
Punched that in and I was done.

You can rant all you want on XP, but if you know how to do XP right, meaning slipstreaming, it runs fine, not as good as Windows 7 though.
I have this running on my I7, it's even got it's swapfile disabled as this PC has 16GB of memory.
On a SSD this just goes and starts and hangs way less than XP.
I'm using it for about 2 years now and it has only done a BSOD while tuning (read: overclocking) the pc, in normal operation I have yet to encounter 1.

Yeah Windows 7 needs a bit more power, but hey, spent a few bucks on a good PC, not some cheap basic thing, and it will run untill your SSD starts showing MTBF, or better said, it's memory chips start degrading.

Yeah even Vista, which some say it should never have been made.

You know when it goes wrong ?
When people got too much junk installed on it without Norton Security or McAfee Security.

Even with such things I've never had anything to moan about. My system is pretty stable and speedy.
