I must have been very tired last night, heres the link to the drive:

http://global.ebay.com/Teac_DV-28SL_Slot-Load_Slim-Line_Laufwerk/400061407822/item .

:tired:

Yeah, that drive is the same as mine with a bezel already mounted it seems. You could basically cut a BIG hole and fit the whole bezel in, or remove the bezel and mount it like I have except you have the button pre soldered. But the button you see on the drive may be fixed to the bezel, so when you remove the bezel, the button comes too. You'll still have a small button underneath, but it means you'd have to find something that can replace the bezel button and protrude outside the A1200 casing. Thats doable and you don't have to worry about soldering :)

Where did you get your clockport expander? I`ve been trying to get one for years :(

Have you tried adding a wanted post in the wanted forum regarding this ?

I've seen one today on the other bay, but the guy wants 4 oilfields and a diamond mine (or close) for it.

cheers

Now when thought about it again, it seems that your setup would be easier to adapt, soldering should not be an issue to me. I just have to wait for cheaper drives on evilbay... How much did you pay for yours?

Yeah, I tried years ago a couple of times but no response.

As for the other one - well, I only have 1 oilfield so it`s a non-starter :nuts:
Thanks anyway

I paid £32 for a new one, the previous one I bought was refurbished for £25 and lasted 2 weeks then broke. The most important thing for fitting, especially over an IDE Fix Express is the size of the JAE adapter. The ones commonly found on evil bay are too big, I got mine randomly from an old machine at work so have no idea where to get one, but it has to be about 1 mm THINNER than the drive itself (½mm each side).

I have two JAE adapters here, and they are both too big I guess, as they have those audio ports aswell. Why does the JAE adapter not fit if its thicker than the drive? I assume that is because you have to solder the wires to the back?

Maybe they will be ok if the IDE connector is not against the bottom part of the JAE adapter and you don't use an IDE Express adapter. What happens is the IDE connector adds to the length of the drive making it sit higher up slightly on the A1200 mainboard, and if you also have an IDE Fix Express adapter the JAE board literally rests on the Chip on the Gayle adapter, if its too big then the drive rests even higher. and those ½mm from the bottom add up to make the keyboard and then the top casing not fit so comfortably. If you do have an IDE Express you really need to remove the headers anyway, so it does get a bit complicated, see here: -

The drive sits too high before I remove the fly lead header (sat under the drive) the clock port header isn't in the way, but I removed that too later as it was annoying trying to fix in the Indivision.

Heres the drive resting on the IDE Fix express adapter chip: -

I later shaved the JAE board underneath by another ½mm at the point where it sits on the chip and took off that insulating plastic so it made it that little bit more comfortable with the A1200 top on.

But really, I say get the drive first then go from there. :) My experience may not be your experience, its all a bit random and lucky with these mods.

@ Phipscube

That picture where you soldered the wires onto the TEAC drive is exactly what I was looking for! Now I can take my Apple slot drive out of my A1200, solder some wires and a mouse button switch to it and have an eject button!

I know that behind the Apple bezel there are pads exactly like those on the Teac, but Apple don't use an eject button on the standard drive as they use a keypress on the keyboard.

Thanks :thumbsup::thumbsup:

@ Lauri

When I fitted my drive, I offered it up to the underside of the keyboard and stuck it there temporarily with some adhesive pads so that I could mark out the outline of the bezel on the inside of the case. Once I had that marked out, I dug out my vernier and copied the outline to the outside of the case and marked out where the slot had to be.

As the Apple bezel almost exactly matched the A1200's colour, I cut out the rounded slot for the bezel and left mine slightly recessed (look at an CW-8123 series drive on a certain site *cough* and you'll get the idea).

The wider slot locates the bezel and I secured the other end to the keyboard with sticky Velcro, to allow the drive to be removed if required. Fastening to the keyboard allows a little more headroom over the IDE header and IDE-Fix adapter.

Above all, remember; measure twice (at least), cut once.....

No probs Merlin, glad I could help :)

@Phipscube
I guess I have no problems fitting the drive with the large JAE adapter that I have already, since I don't have the IDE-Fix adapter sitting underneath. I use that cheap Buffered IDE Interface from amigakit.eu + 14cm "flexible" cable with it.

@Merlin
That sticky velcro sounds like a great idea! And dont worry, I'll measure three times before I start slicing my dear Mig :p... Allready cutted the usb ports to the side and they turned out fine :)

If you don't have an IDE Fix Express then you should have enough space to fit a big JAE adapter yes :) Sounds like you are getting to a point where we will be seeing an A1200D project photo thread soon? ;)

I'm about to enter in the game since i have already set up my loaded 1200 but free time seems to be my main problem. I have been buying all the goodies for my project and i've been trying to make it true in the last 2 and a half years but always something spoiled everything and the project wouldn't come to an end. After a lot of difficult decisions and changes i have recently closed the case once and for all (never say never though) so i should open a new thread in the following days. My humble 1200 comes loaded with lots of goodies but decided to leave out the slimline cdrom since it caused more problems than the benefits i had. Anyway i'll try to organize the photo material i have gathered and present it in a new thread. :)

Nice one portarinos, make sure you get lots of close ups! Looking forward to seeing what you have done! :)

I have now tried the internal cd-rom mounting with a regular slimline drive, but the big and fat JAE adapter really is a problem. And I bought the Blizzard 1260 finally, so I'm thinking of buying a tower and Mediator for my A1200.

hi

hi

OMG no thats a 1200 were did you get the ps2 joypad thingy or is self made i am looking to beef up a 500 trying to get a cass mod so from the top of the keyboard for it to go up the box for the monitor to stand on and have cd rom an ex disk drive at the front like an all in one unit with zorro slots i have just saused some scsi to ide bridge boards very cheep on one amiga sit they are selling them for over £100 i got mine for £15 plus shipping if any one is looking pm me will let you know the web site:thumbsup:

Wow what a machine. Where did the psx joypad things come from? I am loving the slot loaded DVD as well. Looks insane. Liking that USB to ethernet as well.

Given me so many ideas

Cheers guys :)

I got the PSX adapter from a guy called Paul Willingham. Here it is from his video: -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnO6dKU1pT4

Contact him through PM on his youtube channel if your interested in buying any. It can actually be used for many 9 pin D computers, not just Amiga. Its got a controller chip inside the connector that plugs into the Amiga controlling everything in software so its a pretty neat and tidy solution :)

I have also attached some info about the PSX adapters so you can have a read up:coffee:

Another very very impressive machine - very well done:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I love reading these!! :)

Thanks ad-rs1600i :) I'm already missing the old girl and am really itching to get finished in January! You'll find lots of lovely hacks in the photo booth, we all tend to take really juicy close ups of the action too :) phwoar! ;)
