Hi,
My name is Howard, and I have just joined the AmiBay forums, having been a lurker for a while.
I grew up with a Commodore 64 (bread-bin) followed by an Amiga 500 and onto an Amiga 1200 and CD32.
Back in 1993 at a car boot sale, I even picked up a Spectrum +2A for £10, and over the following weeks/months amassed quite a collection of Speccy games from car boot sales from as little as 10p each.
Sadly all of my childhood computers have long-since gone, so I am only now (having hit 40 (!) and now have a young family) getting back into the computers of my childhood, with a view to showing my kid(s) when they are a bit older, about what their Daddy was playing when he was growing up.
I got a cupboard custom-made to house a CRT TV (I purchase a B&O MX4002 for approx £25 from eBay), as well as;
Amiga 1200
C64C
Spectrum +2 (grey)
... all sourced from eBay and all luckily working!
Before I go about setting everything up, I am getting the C64C and Spectrum re-capped, as well as heatsinks fitted to the warmer/hotter chips, and for the Speccy getting the drive belts replaced as they need it!
For the Amiga 1200 I am possibly going to go for a Premium re-furb from Jozsef Vamosi, a guy who I heard about from Denmark, on the Retro Hour podcast (highly recommended podcast by the way!)
Back in April, for my C64, I pre-ordered a 1541 Ultimate II, which when I eventually receive it later this year will be the II+ that Gideon has been describing on his site.
For my Spectrum, I have got a DivMMC Enjoy! ready to go.
And for the Amiga, I will look into getting a CF card installed to get WHDLoad up and running, but I know it is better if I get a ram upgrade as well, so I am keenly following the Vampire II project, waiting for them to announce an A1200 version which I guess will be a little while yet, but I am in no rush!
I am a big fan of quite a few podcasts, namely;
YDKF
Scene World
Sprite Castle
The C64 Take-away (sadly no longer active)
One Man & His Mic (ditto)
Amigos Amiga Podcast
The Retro Hour
Immotral C64 Podcast
Retro Domination
RVG Podcast
Maximum Power Up
Press Play on Tape
RGDS
Retro Asylum
.....
Also a big fan of Sam Dyer's Bitmap Books
Anyways, enough about me!
Ta for now!
Howard
