Got my email yesterday at 2:25am, excited!

I like the E3 idea. Screw the mainstream... More people should pop up in the parking lots around the convention with fancy new gadgetry. We've been throwing parties in parking lots near events for ages here in Wisconsin. Tailgating FTW!

So far, I like the Ouya. However, the game prices seem a good bit higher than similar games in the Android market. I noticed this with the six games I've tried so far. Haven't found a totally free game yet though.

Does anyone know what languages are needed to develop for the Ouya? It's Andraoid based right? So I'm guessing Java?

I have a dissertation topic to come up with and this would be very interesting.

Yeah, and I love a bit of Dubstep :) That's the first game on my list up to now.

BTW Heather, how is your controller? sticky buttons? lag? Just wondering if they have sorted out the early issues already...

Yep that game looks very cool.

Best thing about these cheap Android consoles is that they are cheap, you could almost buy one just to see if you like it or not. With an XBOX/PS you have to be sure it's what you want before you lay down the 500 bones.

"Liking Dubstep"

Urgh, load of noise that sounds like someones arsing about with the fader

Heather

And they said the games would be free

They never said that, they however said "free to try". There is a pretty obvious difference there.

Imagine that game developers want to get paid for their work. What nerves some people have.

Not a surprise that a platform with 400,000 units sold asks a higher price for content than a platform that has twice that number of activations each day and a 1 million plus app lib where the apps have to compete for your money.

The only games i play on my cellphone is puzzle games. I can't stand anything else on a touch screen.

Aye Nova mate, I think that the price is really going to help Ouya as you can almost buy on a whim really. I do still want to see a few good games before I lay my cash down, but already with Dub Wars i'm seeing something I like alot. I hope to see enough over E3 to justify my inevitable purchase come 25th June :)

Yep, all Ouya Games are "Free to try" but that doesn't mean they are free outright. I think ATM only a handful of the 100+ available are free, its mainly "Demo" versions that you unlock with a fee.

As for the higher asking price, well, i'm used to that with PSN. I accept that for a closed system. there is one extra layer that needs paying. As long as the content stays streamlined and most of the games are good then I don't mind paying a little extra. Its not like they are much more, and even then its still really cheap.

Considering some of the crap on Android most of it should be free.

Its like diving into a pool of poop looking for that Marathon bar

But I hope that the content selected for Ouya is the cream of the crop Android wise and some really nice exclusives as time goes on.

Its unfair right now to say the Ouya will have large amounts of crappy Android games, but even then, maybe those will be the games that are free.

I'm looking forward to E3 to see what they have been brewing for the retail launch.

We shall see.............

One thing, What about Andorid games I already own. Will they be transferable?

I noticed a good deal of lag while playing a pinball game on the Ouya, but I really didn't notice any on the other games. As for using purchased Android games, I know that they do not currently have access to the Play store and I have no idea if they ever will.

I know that the operating system is still being worked on, but there are a bunch of things in the settings strings related to tablets and internal displays, which the Ouya doesn't have. Kind of odd.

have you try playing emulator on Ouya? how well does it?

There's plenty of emulators on android, many of which work really well on my old HTC Desire. I think the Ouya could potentially be an awesome emulation machine. Particularly for everything pre-32bit.

Thanks! I'll look into that.

Strangely I never got an email but
Mine showed up yesterday too - dubwars is awesome!

Slightly annoyed my 4gb USB stick doesn't work yet and i have to buy a micro-sd card to load Rom's with.

Oh and my 2nd controller wasnt shipped with the console either. :(

I just picked one of these up. I have a uae build that looks like maybe it works. I side loaded it but not sure how to use it after that. I also installed many emulators...kind of sucks that there's no way to manage files and put them where they should go, or upgrade the hard drive :( So I guess I will need to use a usb drive or something.

My initial impression is that the interface seems...very rushed. They should have held off before shipping, this is NOT a finished product.
