Autodesk has come up with free 3D tools. Here's the dashboard emblem of my hobby car that I've created with Autodesk123D Design.

The emblem is missing from my car so I thought I'd give it a go to do a 3D model and have it 3D printed somewhere.

Good job Protek!, I used the Beta version of 123D to design a guitar tremolo unit for my Westone guitar. It had lots of bugs. Is it a stable program now?

It didn't crash on me but with faces tweaking you need in some cases get creative to get it the way you want it.

Here's my latest project. :) Care to guess what will become of it? ;)

You can't believe what kind of loops you must jump through to make this tool to bend to your will. :banghead:

Aw, really? :( That's a shame - Autodesk's free tools are usually pretty good, in my experience (I'm never without Pixlr Express for quick photo touch-ups and effects on my phone, in particular).

Well, it's not that bad overall. But I did have to get creative in making the screw posts.

Hey Protek, I downloaded the latest version and it's pretty cool. I've been messing about with nearly all the functions, designed some standoff posts for the A3640 and some new parts for my lathe. What I'm finding a challenge is making threads on screws etc.

Looks like you're designing an external drive case?

I haven't even considered something as sophisticated as threads for screws. I just plan to make the screwhole with slightly smaller diameter and use self tapping screws for the job or possibly buy myself a thread maker.

Did some finishing touches to the case bottom and the case top today. Still need to do a hole for the DC jack and some chamfering to the top edges. Enjoy the pics! :)

Kryoflux case?

Nice design btw!
Thanks! I suppose you can put in anything that has screw holes positioned as in a 3,5" floppy drive. :)

This one is actually for the external 3,5" drive in my Amstrad and Spectrum +3. The case is taking design cues from the CPC6128 case.

Once I get the design finished, I'll get it 3D printed somewhere.

Ok, I got the final tweaking done to the case halves (hopefully). I did some filleting and merging to the solids and also made one custom top with Amstrad logo as I'm planning to use the case for my CPC6128. Once I've printed one specimen and verified it's ok, I'll release the models to the community, so you can print your own cases.

Enjoy the pics! :)

Nice work!
I'm using autodesk inventor at work and I can say this is very interesting, do you have any molding service with plastics to finish the model?

Thanks! A friend of mine, who has a 3D printer, printed a couple of cases for me. I also uploaddd my model to couple of 3D printing services but I didn't find their prices very feasible, at least thise that simply calculate the price based on outer dimension rather than the amount of plastic used.

Don't know about any molding services, though.

Something different this time. A holder for an SD card extension cable that goes into a DB25 port opening.

Really nice, do you test the designs before you create them somehow if they fit?
I could help, I mostly do sheet parts and models in inventor and I like the idea to create amiga case designs.

I don't really test them before creating. I simply measure and re-measure the objects around which I'm going to design and use those measures in the sketching.
