Arcade cab wraps for a Vectrex! The sheets you see are still on their backing - but I'll peel those cut pieces and add to the vectrex soon.

Michele (www.vectrexwraps.com) is a top chap and the quality of the art and printing/cutting is exceptional. Talent!

I shall take my time applying these, he's even provided non stick backing so the wraps can be taken off or re-applied in years to come.

What an interesting thread this is!

I got a new de-solder gun yesterday...what a revelation that is! Many many years ago I did high school work experience at Sanyo for a week and they had one also, but I could never afford it at that time.....and now I needed it I can afford it! It goes along with the SMD rework station I bought 3 weeks ago! Now I have it all......it is easy soldering and de-soldering finally!

Was very happy with the condition of the A500plus, but hoping for some opinion on how bad the damage is.

Received a lot of Commodore stuff yesterday. All C64s (4pcs) had some problems. RAM/PLA faults and one black screen. All C64 PSUs measured fine. C16 had faulty PSU. All floppy drives worked fine. I really liked the Buck Rogers cartridge. Never seen this kind of cartridges before. The Finnish game programming manual was also nice. I'm looking into programming games in assembly. One box full of Scotch NOS floppies.

I've bought some devices recently with melting marks on the plastics casing. The 1541-II had some on top. This is caused by storing the flexible cables (power, IEC, joystick) on top of units for a long time. The cables got PVC jackets with PVC softener chemicals. These chemicals cause the hard ABS and PVC cases to melt where they touch the cables. Always store the cables away from hard cases or place paper or PE plastics in between.

The A500Plus is bad but i've seen a lot worse which have survived. Straighten those trapdoor pins carefully and remove all the socketed chips and give the board a good clean using a proper printed circuit cleaner.

Thanks for the advice dougal, I'll do that before I reassemble. Worth replacing the caps at this point?

Edit: I've ordered some isopropyl alcohol to do a decent job of the cleaning and asked about caps on an old post of Merlin's about board caps where he had the same rev board.

Finally opened up the 3 A500's I got recently. I looks like the 6A had been thrown! Scored 2 x Rev 5's and 1 Rev 6a (that system the case was so cracked and broken). The Rev 6a had a nice surprise, someone has added the extra RAM chips...and got 2 A501's out of the other 2. One of the A501's has some significant corrosion...but nothing that cant be easily fixed!

Got a Sam Coupé yesterday for €XXX, it just needs a new keyboard membrane to make it work again. I've never used any Spectrum/Spectrum-like products so it's going to be interesting to see what this little machine can do.
