hi guys who have them is there a list of oses for them and what is working on them the most stable

It's down to personal preference John my friend.
I for example like Debian as I'm using Ubuntu distros the last years and it seem very easy to work with.
I also tried Arch for a bit but I found it really awkward (despite being a lot better for more advanced users). Soz but I'm not a linux guru :)
MrZammler (creator of iGame for the Amiga) is using Gentoo (even more advanced) and he successfully compiled some emulators that work awesomely well!
(Check his Blog article with video here: http://winterland.no-ip.org/2012/06/raspberrypi-emulators/)

Atm, I'm using Apache/PHP/MySQL on my Pi, as for Media Center purpoces I have XBMC on a Windows Atom mitx machine.
2-8Watt machine is really awesome for some home-server usages and torrent seeders and I intend to try that for now :)

If you need any help with Debian, I can send you some nice How-To document that I made gathering info from A LOT OF sources including videos around, for many common installation problems.

thanks for the info mate when i finally get mine a few pms will be coming your way cheers

@mario / john

The truth of the matter is that even though I have had various x86 Linux distros lying around over the years I never really got into it.

I find that I have learnt more about Linux & the command line etc in the last 2 weeks thanks to Pi, so it must be doing something right.

TC

thanks TC thats what the pi was intended for a learning machine plus a lot more for the tiny thing

If there are enough people interested then a thread could be opened.

Nice cases :-)

Im going to try a few os's this weekend, xbmc, risc os and others. Im not keen on the default os, horrible screen res, no video player and a few other gripes.

Has anyone got youtube running on an os on the pi yet?

I got it :D

YESSSSS:thumbsup:

Now I will be going to Maplin to buy Small Keyboards

It going be Exciting day for me :p

P.S. I guess they ran out of RASBERRY T-SHIRT

I now have 2 Pi's. Lucky me.

Still absolutely no idea what I will be doing with them. I booted up one of them and immediately discovered that it wasn't going to auto-detect (or even give an option for) 1920x1080 resolution via HDMI. At that point I mucked about a bit, loading various preinstalled bits of software and whatnot.

Doesn't seem to want to pick up an IP from a bridged connection to my laptop, either.

I still love the idea of the device, but if it's going to be of value, it kinda should at least work as expected when you switch it on for the first time without having to delve into the command line.

Excuse the dumb question  . How do these Pi's run linux distros and also have the capability to run a RISC OS?

The OS is LDX isnt it or have I got my Letter other way round

Not Bad....

What other OS should I used PI System?

How do I turn my Rasberry PI off?

IT say System Halted and do I pull the plug off or remove power from RASBERRY PI Computer?

Please help me as I need to know now
