Did I hear correctly that Dave ( tv channel ) has commissioned a new series of Red dwarf !

All original cast members will be in it.

I'll try to find some more info...

What happened to the film anyway?

movie was canned m8,

but yes Dave has bought the rights and is making the new series with the original cast. (Grant is doing this but Naylor has declined:()

live audience is yet to be confirmed

Live audience ... Us on the way back from the bar

This could be epically brilliant or stupendously bad and I'm not sure which side of that fence I'm coming down on.

If it's anything like that travesty where they landed on Coronation Street they are better off not bothering.

What's the worst that could happen?
Shame it's not Grant Naylor gestalt back and writing it... Half the writing partnership has produced less than half the quality of the earlier series: flash effects and CGI do not good sci fi humour make...

In December 2011 and January 2012, all six episodes of Red Dwarf X will be filmed at Shepperton Studios in front of a live audience.

Don't bother asking for tickets, they are all sold out.

I already knew about and have been looking forward to this, but like Merlin said, lets hope it isn't the rubbish they recently made featuring Corrie as that was awful.

OMG I love Red Dwarf. Cannot wait if they really are bringing out a new series

Kryten: "Sir, he appears to have written the warning with a combination of his guts, entrails and his own intestinal tract"

Rimmer: "Who would do such a thing"

Lister: "Someone who badly needed a pen"

Whichever of the two writers who stayed on, towards the end, wasn't the sharper of the two. A lot of the trademark ascerbic wit and withering sarcasm was dulled down and replaced by attempts at actual drama, coupled with twee, cutesy slapstic. There were reminders of its former glory but they were more like echoes really. Not to mention that Chloe Anette was about as funny as removing nostril hairs.

Having said that, as a set piece, the sexual magnetism dinner party with the captain must be saluted with at least three spins.

And I would still definitely watch the new series :D

Lister: "Go to Blue Alert!"

later...

Lister: "Step up to Red Alert!"
Kryten: "Are you sure, sir? It does mean changing the bulb!"

Holly: Purple Alert! Purple Alert!
Lister: What's a Purple Alert?
Holly: Well, it's worse than a Blue Alert, but better than a Red Alert. Kind of a Mauve Alert...

Kryten: We must take action! Be bold, positive, decisive! Suggest we move from Blue Alert to Red Alert, sir!
Cat: Forget red! Let's go all the way up to Brown Alert!
Kryten: There's no such thing as Brown Alert, sir!
Cat: You won't be sayin' that in a minute! And don't say I didn't alert you!

Alerts will never be the same again.....

The early shows were brilliant and very funny. I actually prefer the shaky sets , rough airfix models and blue screen effects.

The later cgi stuff with the whole former crew was not so good...

Having said that I prefer the older stuff to most cgi rubbish.

agree Mike, there was more thought on the writing as the way to drive the show, rather than 'we've got a budget for explosions'...

Still, I'll give it a fair crack of the whip. Shame both writers couldn't be persuaded to do it though.

its quite fiting that this community should like the earlier eppisodes as half the computer props were commadore keyboards :D

Other way around duder. Rob Grant waved goodbye to RD years ago and has said many times he has no interest in returning (in other words, he refuses to work with Doug Naylor again).

Shame.

I wonder how many other classic shows are going to be revived on Dave?
