They are most likely to be pull-up resistors, to condition the Sync voltage from the Atari to a voltage the converter can handle. The capacitor is there to smooth out spikes in the supply.

At a guess converting the Hoz and vertical syncs into the one sync
not sure why u would do this as there seems to be seperat hoz and vertical syncs on the board

Nah, just wiring them together and feeding them into comp sync worked fine.

Probably explains why it sometimes jitters about before settling down... I think I might be overvolting it a tiny bit. Any reccomendations for where to order the bits, that DOESN'T use paypal? I've only got a 0.47uf cap and I'm not sure if that'll be enough.

i think this is an interesting thread,to help a few peaple out heres what the buttons on the gbs8220 does(funtion wise):-

UP = up thruogh menus(obvios really)
DOWN/AUTO = down thruogh menus(again obvios),hold then release for 5 seconds to scan for picture, hold for 1 second to SET mode.
SW = switch,(changes thruogh the different inputs)
MENU = well its the menu./set selection within menu system etc.

ive only got one or two surgestions here, try not to use the rgb port on the amiga for power as this unit takes 2 amps to run.

and the other point is you dont need to use the 8 pin header for the signal input you can also use the YPbPr/p2 port or the p3 port to connect it up to the amiga,i use the p3 port for the signal input, just make sure you ground all the ground points including the sheild ground for the cables.

Hmm i think my post above cugar124 got deleted, was it because it was too speculative?

Ok, so i have one of these and have all the correct cables and psu etc.

I have a couple of questions:

1) My Samsung led 8 bd8000 has a blue overlay tint to everything when using the 8220, how do i adjust the settings on the 8220? i have tried holding down the buttons for 5 secs and have got into a menu but its in chinese (argh)

2) My amiga sound has gone if i use the 8220 (previously i was using composite (1200) to scart input on the tv. How do i get sound using the 8220 considering my tv is too new to have composite input??

Answers:

1a) Blue Overlay.

- Not sure but could be caused by one of the pots being rotated too far in the clockwise direction. The pots on mine are all turned fully anti-clockwise.

1b) Language Selection.

- Press the menu button.
- You should have a list of options with a yellow pointer at the bottom.
- Scroll up from the bottom one position.
- Press the menu button again.
- Scroll up 2 positions to the top which is English.
- Press the Menu button again. This will select English and return you to the previous menu.
- Press the Menu button again to exit the menu.

2) Amiga Sound

You'll have to devise a way to connect your Amiga sound connectors to a speaker system or similar. AFAIK ther's no way the GBS supports sound.

Good luck mate.

hi Snoozy

to change to english

press menu button

then down button until option 4
then menu button option 1 for english

it will auto save settings

try the

picture menu 1 for saturation maybe
geometry menu 2 for picture size and position
display menu 3 for resolution mines set to 1024x768

for sound you may need a phone to jack wire

Can you explain what you mean by pots?

Is that the small plastic crosshead screws?

(all picture menu options are on default 50, 50 etc and still blue screen)

oops, dodgy vga connection on tv :(

Ok so i have colour now but the screen has a persistent mild flickering effect in the background, almost enough to cause an epliptic seizure:blink:

has one of the pins on the vga lead been pushed in?

no its just that the vga connection on my tv is vertical and the lead (via gravity) had come out slightly
