I've spent the last 2 painful months using an Android samsung S phone after i got bored with Apple iPhones and decided to change..

well i can say it was a huge mistake, how do people use the bloody thing! constant updates, flashing lights , mute doesn't mute...Anyway i just bought another iPhone and its faster, cleaner OS and not filled with adverts and constant nagging like the Android. oh and the apps just keep stopping!

funnily enough out of the four people at work that use Android all but one have now bought iPhones... having said that 2 have windows phones and one a nokia 3310 !

not that the iPhone is perfect, its not but it feels a much better made product In my opionion.

so how do you all rate Android or iOS ?

- no flaming wars or slagging off please , just your impressions and thoughts of using them...

I love my iPhone, but I've never used Android, so I can't really provide an objective comparison. I really should try Android some time.

no flaming wars or slagging off please

Yes. Good luck with that!

yeah .... the Apple bashers will be out in force Andy lol

I'm both an android user and an ios user, I love vanilla android and the non-intrusive roms (like cyanogenmod). but mfg shells like samsung is just a pain.

ha ha hello Justin, i know some love them , i just well ... don't

time we had a sit down and a few beers Justin

My only real experience with android was a tablet, after 30 minutes of trying to get an app downloaded and working I gave up, sent it back to its owner and carried on with my iPad.

I'm sure it has it's merits, I just couldn't find them

I actually went from using iPhone 3g back to sony phones, then the xperia models.

I like iPhone's for the consistency, but at the same time, I find that even the latest iphones have the same lack of features that the original did. so it's too consistent for me.

No direct storage file browser, loading music onto the thing still requires iTunes, or a 3rd party app to sync from iTunes. Bespoke chargers. Can't use as a disk drive, unable to expand storage. Poor camera.
Horrid ringtone ability, having to create a .m4r file I believe just for iTunes/iphones to detect a ringtone is absurd.

Other than that, I like them for the simplicity. But I will not give up my Xperia Z1 anytime soon. (20mp camera, waterproof, sd slot, don't need a paperclip to get the sim card out :P )

With regards to people struggling to download from the app store.... umm, it just uses a gmail email address to authenticate... job done. Not much different to an iPhone in that regard.

I suspect people having issues with android devices in general are using lower spec/no name devices which is admittedly a horrid experience, but then, that's no different from using my mothers iPhone 4 with iOs7... it crawls along and is horrible to use.

I'm a VERY lazy user of electronic devices - I like my operating systems as basic, simple and useful as possible, and I've found iOS far, far easier to use than Android (I've used both for quite a while now). Also, Android started to feel slower to me after a while, and iOS doesn't seem to slow down after the nth app being installed.

I don't care about having full control over an OS, or having hundreds of features, nor do I want to run emulators or anything that goes around the standard OS functions. Also I don't really prefer open source over closed source - for me it's a huge advantage that Apple hardware and software fully talks with eachother straight out of the box, rather than having to setup all kinds of communication with different devices running Android, Linux and/or Windows.

I'm not saying that Android is bad though (I've had quite some fun with my HTC Desire for 2 years), but it's just nothing for me (anymore).

I'm a mobile developer so spend all day every day playing with iphones, android phones/tablets and other more obscure phones. All operating systems and hardware have pros and cons, eg the one most Android fanboys harp on about the most is the fact you can insert an SD card and remove the battery. Yes you can, but at the expense of aesthetics which are important for something you hold in your hand.

Xperia Z1 has better build/design than any apple phone so far.
Likewise, HTC's One X is better built also. :p

Couldn't give a crap about most features either platform has or doesn't have, just find iTunes for music synching is shockingly appaling. :)

Also, as a consumer and not a developer, I really couldn't care any less if the development environment/code was horris. If the end product runs decent, I and most likely the majority of the userbase have no issue with that as android is far more popular than ios :P

i have has an s2 and have a s4 now and i have had no problems i also have a nexus7 tablet and all fine. i have never had an iphone but a few at work have gone from iphones to samsungs. i had nokias before and android is miles better than symbian0s

I've been quite happy with Windows Phone 8 (and WP7 before that). It gets the job done and so far I've found all the apps that I need for it from the Marketplace.

I do have an Android pad (Nexus 7) and am happy with it but I've never felt an urge to get an Android phone, nor an iPhone for that matter.

Probably will check Jolla out, when I'm updating my phone.

I had an iPhone 3GS but after 3 years it's battery was knackered and I wasn't shelling out 80 odd quid just to have that replaced. Decided to try Android and got a Samsung Galaxy Note 2. After a little readjusting to it I've now decided I'm never going back to Apples "locked down, money grabbing OS". The SGN2 was £200 cheaper than the iphone 4S (at the time), it's great having full access to the internal memory and SD card, more freedom to make system changes, being able to use bluetooth for any purpose (like Wii controllers for emulators). But best of all, no bl**dy itunes!

Just opinions!

Unfortunately I had to buy a new mobile phone (because my previous one committed suicide) and that new phone has Android in it. Don't like it to tell you the truth, and I don't like Google either and their policies. I'm planning to switch to iOS with an iPhone device in the future.

is this a poll about the os or the manufacturer?
i dont like apple, i dont like their practices, locking things down, preventing you changing the battery and all that other stuff that you have probably seen me rant on about in the past..

I aslo however dont like google spying on me. and i dont like MS 's new idea of operating systems.

so if its purley software os's then any one of them will agrivate me imenssley. apple just take it a tiny bit futher with itunes.
however my wife loves her i tunes..

if its hardware your talking about. then i would chose ANYTHING over an apple product. i dont care if you offered me an obsolere motorola razor or a brand new iphone "provided i was not allowed to isnatantly sell the thing" i would take the razor.

if your talking those ipad/tablet things.
then im sorry but i have to go for a windows laptop. or preferably a tower pc.

Only just had the Samsung Galaxy S3 and i think its amazing. Always loved Android so its not a problem for me. As for Apple phones i have no clue and dont intend to buy one.

OK, I've stepped in to tidy up this thread. Can I please remind folks to keep it civil! Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but ad hominem attacks against fellow members won't be tolerated.
