As some of you might have read I bought some PC upgrades last week :)

Finally got the time today to strip out my old parts and install the new, plus it was a good excuse to clean out the case!

So first job was to remove the old Motherboard/PSU and put my GTX260 to one side for later

Here's my old board, too good to throw away so will clean up and put to use in another case, It's an AMDX2 4400+ Abit AN8 Fatal1ty Mobo 2GB DDR400 OCZ Gold. Cost me a fortune back in the day, but I guess it was good value since it has lasted me so long!

Next up, strip and clean out the case removing fans/etc to get all the dirt out, shocking how much dust builds up inside a modern PC!

Case is by Coolermaster and is pretty sturdy, had it a couple of years now but it's a decent case :)

Next installed my new Motherboard, didn't spend as much on the Motherboard this time.

CPU & Ram already installed (AMD FX4170 4.2ghz Quad Core & 8GB Ram)

Although the CPU came with a stock cooler I really don't like to use them so opted this time for a liquid cooling system, very impressed with this little setup, silent and looks very smart plus plenty of room for circulation in the case.

And PSU/GPU fitted :coffee:

Last thing going in, somewhere to install Windows 7 - nice SATA3 SSD :ninja:

Oh and of course a nice new SATA3 1TB HDD

Was shocked how fast Windows 7 installed and boots up really fast, posting now from the new PC of course!

Thanks mate, yeah it's the Zotec 260, you got em in SLI then? I don't do enough PC gaming to justify a faster GPU

I just tested Modern Warfare 3 and it runs smooth on all highest settings so can't complain. Have asked the missus to pick up Crysis 2 for me whilst she's out shopping :)

i did have them in my q6600 machine in tri sli great speed increase but was to warm in there so upgraded to i5 750 and to 460s in each machine which are cooler and slightly faster. i have 5 260s a xfx 1 a evga 1 and 3 zotac 1s im only using the xfx 1 for folding the other 4 just collecting dust now

Oooh, PSU on the bottom, I like.

I've always thought it bad design to have the heaviest component suspended in the air by 4 small screws. If it were to come off it would come crashing down onto the video card...

Thats a nice machine you have there Steve , but dont forget to download bios updates. My Bulldozer based heap of crap hit some snags being a bit unstable at times. It's a bit better now with more recent updates from ASUS :)

Think I`d be more worried about a hose leaking all over the PSU at the bottom :)

Thanks for the kind words and tips. Runs really smooth and responsive. Windows rating score is 7.2 overall. But I need to tweak some things like ram timing.

Will check out the updates. Modern warfare 2 is awesome at full settings :-)

I think the fluid is non-conductive

AMD fanboys still hold onto AMD actually being competitive.

I have used both over the years - who ever has the best chips at the right price gets my money.

Hasnt been AMD for awhile. :(

We are forgetting the price? That CPU is like £100 brand new, money vs performance it is not a bad CPU at all. Of course it can't compete with i5's+ and maybe lower but for the price I think it will be a damn good system.

Nice one Steve  time for you to install BF3 :D

Also don't benchmark with any COD games they all use the old engine and can be run by almost anything on full (was done on purpose they wanted to get more sales as BF3 was a lot more demanding on hardware), try something like Witcher 2 etc. But COD is poor for benchmarking.

Right enough.... keyboard engaged before brain  Could always go the fishtank and mineral oil route lol

I don't think so bob. You think £100 is a steal but you get it home and it's missing half the cores!

Wowser for real? They all like that or just some? That is mental, but yeah if you get the 4 cores for £100 it would be a steal, not sure about 2 hehe

Mine shows 4 cores on Speedfan & CPUID Hardware Monitor, It's Quad Core so why wouldn't it anyway?

Just downloading BF3 now mate, so maybe give you a whooping some time :D

Oh just ordered Crysis 2 as well :ninja:

Fitzsteve in messing about with a Peecee shocker.:wooha:

It's AMD lying about what a core is, they only put four ALUs in the "quad core" model and two of everything else. Two and one of everything else in the dual cores, etc...

I'm surprised nobody sued them for false advertising yet.

AMD call that eight cores. AMD can't count.
