the choice is yours of course and you can buy and then sell whatever card you buy , probably without losing much (any) money. i went the ram upgrade , then a 25mhz 030 with 8mb ram and then 040 and then 060 ....
the trouble is you may want to run demos and if you do then 030 with 16mb is really a minimum for bigger demos but lots are 040/060
4mb and 8mb ram cards will cause problems with pcmcia , an accelerator will not...but if your just after a cheap way to play WHDload then a 4mb card would probably do for 99% of the old Amiga games.
My general advice is if your on a budget (who isn't)
ClassicWB on CF
pcmcia CF or SD card adaptor
ram upgrade
I've got an ACA1232@25 in my 1200 and it's pretty good but not quite good enough for quick games... Zool can get pretty slow sometimes as can R-Type and other fast'ish side scrollers...
I'd be real tempted to splash out on a 030@40 / 040@40 if I'd not already coughed for the ACA and Indy MKII..
I mean the speed drops could be my setup but it rates about 5 times quicker than standard in sysinfo (if that actually means anything?!?)..
Maybe the types of games you'll be playing should influence your choices??

I think your ACA1232 should be fast enough for those games. Zool was always slow when lots of stuff happened on screen. No matter how fast an Amiga you got, it won't become faster than it is on a plain A500.
