better than what ? S-Video. Not that I am aware of. Or is your question can I make the mod with a 1084 cable? Yes. Just tell me mono or stereo for the audio.

1084 source
Yellow: luma
Red: chroma
white: audio

1084S source
Yellow: luma
Red: chroma
white: audio left
black: audio right

Here is an image of how my Vic works with the cable. The LCD isn't very good but the quality is GREAT !!!!!!!!
 
My assumption is that previously you couldn't play Scott Adams adventures, as the text was not readable?

Playing adventure, and some arcade, games was anoying with the normal video options. This cable is a must-have option for all VIC20 users ;D
