I've registered two machines, apparently you can do it for up to 5, for this offer both bought in the last month but it never asked me to provide any license key details?

It just asked for name, address, machine details and purchase dates/where from and then said thanks and gave me a reference number as in the pic above.

Like previously said in the thread if it had asked for license key details i wouldn't have entered them anyway, even if it is Microsoft asking.

Have you got the approved screen like I have in my last post? Everyone who did it early on overclockers also had to enter keys in, I am not sure you are as far into the process as us who registered interest weeks ago. But hell I dunno

Yeah, i bought these two machines this month, one on the 8th and one on the 12th and i registered for the offer on the 12th. Got an email today telling me registration was now open so i went there and filled in the form twice, one for each machine, and both came back as approved but neither asked me for license key info.

Oh hurrah, now I can order an OS that's sort of like what I'm already using only with the interface I'm used to taken out and a bunch of stupid crap added! I CAN'T WAIT.

Yeah I think I'll just stick with Windows 7.....can anyone one say Vista Mrk2

Oh no guys, this one will be a blunder all out in its own territory

now, now chaps, i believe this thread was started as an information source for a cheap upgrade to windows 8, not an MS bashing thread.

wanna get back on topic?

Okay, well. Honestly what I meant to say is that I need some kind of reason to upgrade.

I´m usually an early adopter but this time upgrading to new os just because I can isn´t a reason enough to upgrade to new os. Basically, I fear it would break one software or the other. And software compatibility, if anything, is the reason to use Windows. Otherwise I would be in the Linux or the Macos camp.

What the Windows 8 needs, is a killer app. Be it exclusive direct3d 12 or just a couple of exclusive games. I would hate it if they did that but that would work. That would make me upgrade. :coffee:

At this point I would hardly even take a free upgrade.

Arguably as an information source it's served its purpose. The first post informs people that it's available. Not intending any disrespect but it seems logical to discuss and anticipate the experience and success? This is in general chat area after all :)

i do remember a lot of these comments before XP came out and right upto XP SP2 being released, oh and before 7 was released. (although you were right about Vista:lol:)

it is the same old peeps complaning about the same old things, win8 will be released and it will come pre installed on new PCs/laptops. it may well be poo, but it is still gonna happen:D

Okay it needs to have a degree of focus :p but we're still discussing Windows 8 in a Windows 8 release thread in the general chat section...

Eh let the people complain, it's our right as MS customers! :D

Remember the Microsoft phasing methods;

Windws 3.1 - OK
Windows 95 - Errr, yeah
Windows 98 - Getting there
Windows 98SE - Now we're talking
Windows ME - Multiple Exceptions?
Windows NT - Solid
Windows 2000 - Solid
Windows XP - Cool
Windows Vista - Carp
Windows 7 - XP with added coolness
Windows 8 - ?

I wouldn't touch 8 just yet, maybe when Service Pack 1 is released and they've ironed out any post-BETA bugs.

mostly agree but a few options are missing

XP - BSOD POS
XP SP1 - Still slow and buggy
XP SP2 - now we are getting somewhere
XP SP3 - why have you slowed it down and filled it with bloatware?

:)
