.....Could someone post pics of their power-wiring (Speccy board to Zetr0's adaptor, preferably on a +3)? I assume I only need 2 wires (+5v and Ground) connected. The motherboard on the +3 is marked but which connectors on the Zetr0 board should these be connected to?

Are you wanting to draw power through zetr0's adapter for your IDE device rather than just straight from the spectrum motherboard?
The adapter doesn't require any extra power connections itself, and it is quite easy to get the +5 and GND for your IDE device from the motherboard with a little soldering.
I'm looking to draw power from the motherboard as Zetr0 says he doesn't recommend any other method.

I see unused connectors on the motherboard but which PINS on the power connector (on Zetr0's board) do I need to join them to?

This needs some form of documentation for those without an electronics degree.

I can handle a soldering iron but I don't want to kill either the +3e OR Zetr0's board by EXPERIMENTING!

@UKRetroGamer

Attached is a picture, how I connected the power for the CF card adapter. Red is +5V and black is ground.
Any reason not to use these? (Ringed in Yellow). I have to admit, I've not poked around inside my +3e with my Fluke yet but having looked at this and other pictures, my thoughts were to take a floppy lead, snip the 12v and negative leads and solder the loose ends into the respective holes in the motherboard. Or am I missing something?

I'm more concerned, I don't connect the +5v to the wrong part of Keith's board.

Helo my friend, you needn't snip any wires, infact all you need to do is solder a +5v and Ground from underside the motherboard where the power wire is for the Floppy port.

Its very easy to do, I would not recomend to draw +5v from the CASS (Cassette) Header.

The above is fitted in the same way but on a +2AB(black)

here is one I made on the +3e

I will try and get a better pic for you later, but the power cable goes to a floppy drive molex 4pin connector and then connects to the CF adapter.

I hope that help.

I think you may have got the wrong end of the stick (or I am having difficulty understanding exactly what you want to do). The IDE adapter, Zetro's board, does not need any extra power connectors to work whatsoever.
All the power cables that members have added are to power the IDE devices that they are using.
You can simply plug in the adapter, refit the CPU, replace the ROMs with 3e ones and switch it on and it will work.
Unless you are thinking of modifying the board to provide the power for your attached devices, you do not need to solder his board anywhere. The only things that need power are the CF to IDE adapters or IDE hard disc that you use to store your files.

I robbed (liberated) mine from dead AT/ATX/MATX PSU's

always good to keep some wire about =D

I just trimmed down a standard IDE cable with scissors. Seemed about the right length to manoeuvre the CF adapter clear of the Tape mechanism.

Was just wondering would it be any help, if I tried the pins of the Z80 with a logic probe, with and without a CF card inserted to see what the differences are?

Hiyas my friend,

its here with your Spectrum +3e

at the moment I am refurbishing the 3" drive, with luck it will be collected Friday.

Would of been earlier but I lost the drive belts lol, fortunately my friend AtariJay came over earlier to help move some boxes, so NOW we are rocking =D

No problems good sir. As we are only a few days away from bumping into each other in a northern curry house, you might as well bring it to blackpool, save posting it all.

@Zetr0

My adapter received long time a go.

VERY SORRY my friend :oops: :oops: :oops: :bowdown: :bowdown: :bowdown:

Feedback on this way :thumbsup:

My Best wishes as allways.

Pablo
