£206.00 ?

Christmas number 1 seller?

If Apple can get this at or under £200 it should kill of these horrible little Android devices. I've tried a few now and to be honest , I'm very unimpressed.

So come on , get ya money out and support a lovely little company called Apple.

:-)

Waits for the attack ...

69 pounds too expensive to kill the Chinese devices ..

Carmageddon on that will be good :)

Nice concept - little more work on the price needed. They need to make sure that the factory workers are paid less to help bring it in under £200. (I'm not being serious here BTW)

I agree that all the cheap knockoff Android devices kinda stink. However, I've used the Nexus 7 and it's a great device for a good chunk less than the iPad mini. You're always going to pay an Apple tax even if the specs are identical.

I'm just excited that we're starting to see real competition in this market. That's almost always good for the consumer in the long run.

I would have bought it, but the hardware is already outdated.
A5 chip, Apple? In your new device? No, thank you.

Just noticed they also announced the iPad 4 too.

Little miffed as i only bought my New iPad 3 about 3-4 months ago.

The thing i find strange though is according to the write up the iPad 3 has been completely removed from stock leaving only the iPad 2, iPad mini and this new iPad 4 available for purchase. Is there something wrong with the iPad 3? i would have thought they would have discontinued the iPad 2 and kept the iPad 3, 4 and Mini?

I really dont know why people spend so much on a tablet. I mean once people think its old they only get rid of it and buy another one. At least with a laptop or even a desktop PC you can upgrade certain parts to make the computer new again.

I still dont think anyone knows what to do with a tablet that a PC/Lappy cant. It may be small but the price is far too high for my liking

Well for me , I read and surf the net on the iPad and even watch the odd film but I wanted a light and quick to use device and the tablet is it. I don't want a laptop revving away while I'm reading or browsing...

But that's just me

Mine is basically used by my kids for educational purposes. I have a lot of Maths & English apps and it has brought my 4 year old on loads. My 3 year old has also started to play the Maths and English games and is now writing and spelling her own name and adding small numbers.

hehe, looks nice but Apple is going to the uncomfort-zone to cash in with the brand. It's resolution is not even close to awesome and it's about the same size as other tablets. though, with £270 its significantly cheaper than Note 10.1".

I haven't done jack with the regular Ipad so I guess I could do even less with smaller ipad :)

My better half wants a tablet, because she mostly do stuff on the phone now instead of her big laptop.

I have a hp touchpad. came with webos, but now runs android ics. i really like ics, sans the fact the youtube app doesn't work now for some odd reason (doesn't happend to other touchpad owners). But my biggest gripe with it is the sheer weight. it is not something you'll hold in your hands for a longer period of time. it is just above ipad 4 in weight.

so the ipad mini with its half-of-ipad-4-weight .. that is suddenly becoming interesting. while it doesn't matter to me what my spouse uses, i know what my problem with a 10" tablet is. and the ipad mini isn't as much smaller than the name implies.

it is just a tad smaller.

Apple will sell the Mini purely because of all the brainwashed public. However spec and price wise they have lost the battle. Google announced on Monday that a 32GB version of the Nexus 7 is going on sale at the same £199 price as the existing 16GB version.

Compare this with the iPad Mini and to get a 32GB version you will need to pay £349! And for a 64GB version you are looking at £429. Mad! And if you want to add 3/4G then you are looking at £369 for the 16GB version, going all the way up to £529!!!

Google have also thrown another spanner in the works by announcing the new 10" Nexus 10 and a new smartphone the Nexus 4. Asus will also be releasing a 3G version of the Nexus 7.

Wi-Fi model are also lacking GPS. I've already used my Nexus 7 when out to get some navigation. Worked really well with offline GoogeMaps, and also tethered to my phone for new information.

And the resolution is identical to a most existing 7" tablets.

All they have basically done is shrink the iPad 2. Same screen resolution and other specs. It will therefore run all existing iPad 2 apps without an issue, making Apple's new device look well supported out of the box.

So as expected the Mini has ended up being an overpriced cash-in on their last gen hardware.

It is also interested to see they are dropping the iPad 3 but keeping the iPad 2. Must be cheap to make the 2 these days and get a good profit, but probably not so cheap to keep making the 3 due to the screen.

Lets hope the iPad 4 addresses the rubbish refresh rate of the 3's retina display.

Waste of money mate. Seriously look at the Nexus 7. The new 32GB version for £199 is a no brainer. Or if you want a 10 inch version its about to be launched.

So, I bought a 1st-gen iPad from a friend at work for a decent price about six months ago. I only really bought it as a toy and it still does everything I want of it. It'll take iOS6 if I decide I want that, and it'll run all the Apps I throw at it. I certainly have no plans to upgrade my iPad at any point in the near future.

I was waiting to see the price, and Apple really missed the boat there.
The Nexus will (I think) rule the Christmas market.
I also was interested in the Surface,But MS really really missed the boat there.
Putting out a crippled device (WIN CE anyone?) at a price point where it is DEATH to every non-apple device- come on.. But we shall see.

Every article I have read states the mini is priced at the WRONG price point. Apple could have killed everyone by putting it out starting at $150 USD- the can afford the hit and make up the loss with the App store, but this just shows that common sense, dosen't play into the minds at Apple.
