Apple iPad mini

The Ironic thing is here is a very device that Steve Jobs wanted. He wanted to destroy Google, and vowed every last penny in Apple's coffer's to go thermal nuclear on them. Apple could do that with the mini- if it was priced under $100 USD. Now that he is dead, this product probably won't last too many years before being axed.

I've never got on with Apple products, and probably never will. I just don't like how they do things.
That said, I do recommend Apple products to the less technically minded friends and relatives. It's range of products are perfect for those who aren't interested in, or can't, sort out their own tech lives.
As long as they can afford it, of course.
I will continue to look elsewhere for my own personal tech as I balk at the prices they ask, I just don't think they reflect good value for money.

I've been having the PiPo UP-U1 coming to me from China since September 11th (this year and not the WTC disaster). Ok specs and Jellybean for about 120€ delivered plus customs and VAT. Only thing is that it is yet to arrive. Customer service told me to contact them again if it hasn't arrived on Oct 30th. I'm just wondering if I should give them a second chance or demand a refund and get a Nexus 7 instead from an European dealer.

The "point" of the mini is to compete in the "low end" market, but Apple along the way is missing the whole point. The "low end" market is made for people who can't afford or refuse to pay for the high end (why else would a company like e-machines or acer have thrived). Apple believes that people will pay any price for their "stuff" and therefore is missing the point of the "Low End" market.

Actually I think what apple is thinking, this is not a cheaper, scaled down emachines version of the iPad. It is just a smaller iPad! Why would the price be much cheaper simply because it is 2/3 the size with the same specs as the iPad 2?

I think this option is simply available for people who think the iPad is too large to lug around. A smaller iPad would be better suited for a woman (to keep in her purse!), child, person on the go, etc...

With that said, I do think Apple should lower the price of it to $299. :)

That is what I think...

@tj

Are you saying this is a girly ipad.... ie ipad for girls / women

To small for us macho blokes..

TC

I was just thinking... isn't the iPod Touch really a 4" iPad?

And really, where does the touch fit into the product line these days?

That's a really good point. They're doing so many products now that the lines between them are beginning to blur a little too much. With the likely exception of one or 2 features the ipod touch already was a miniature ipad. Technically so are most touch screen smart phones miniature tablets depending on where you place these lines.

Slap in a sim card and a network device for mobile networks into a tablet and you really just have a giant smartphone.

Yeah, and the really ironic thing is that the iPod Touch trounces the iPad Mini technically. Don't get why they didn't put iPhone 5 tech in the mini. Even though the A6 isn't the most up to date technically (still dual core), at least its not 2011 and runs above 1GHz.

The only logical reason is price, but if this tech was in an Android tab it would be £49 max.

The a6 isn't quad but there stops the bad things about the performance.

I got my Onda VI40 Ultimate straight from China, too, from a crowd called Chinistore. I chose the cheapest shipping option as I didn't have much money at the time - and that particular option was to use China's own postal system. Once the package leaves China, the tracking system will not update until it arrives in the country of destination, which is very annoying. I had to wait some time before getting mine, but it did arrive eventually, very well packaged and protected from careless postal workers and whatever else it may have encountered.

So continue twiddling your thumbs for a while longer, and it should be arriving soon!

Os4 note book anyone?

There is supposed to be a ppc netbook coming out "this year" lets see... OS4 tablet would be cool, but then it would need porting to Arm. Should have been done years ago tbh. Amiga OS would be perfect for mobile devices.
