Hi all,

I purchased an A1200, and a Pre-loaded CF card (with ide adapter and cable) to go with it.

I installed it, and while it seems to work, what I find is that sometimes I will power up the computer and while the led light of the card adapter does turn on, the computer does not boot from the card, going to the standard "insert disk" screen.

However, if I soft reset the Amiga, it loads up just fine and fast from the CF card.

What could be going on? Is it possible that the computer is trying to boot before the card has initialized?

thanks.

Do you have 3.0 or 3.1 roms? Apparently 3.1 has a longer delay that could solve the issue.

That guy sell solid working cf cards. Rom 3.1 check every time in the boot up is there HDD/CF so it will take a little longer to load than Rom 3.0 which is faster. Now you might wanna check that you have installed that IDE lead correctly for CF card. If you install it wrong way you just get your machine broken. There is always pin1 what need to be installed right way.

And you need also extra memory to your Amiga to get it boot up by the way. Minimum of 4MB extra memory, but recommended 8MB.

edit. A1200 own 2MB isn't enough.

It's 3.0

I also have another A1200 that also has 3.0 and this did not happen (at keast I don't remember it happening...)

not sure I understand your comments...

i know it has to be installed correctly, and looks/boots fine.

Regarding memory, Inknow tou need more than 2MB to *RUN* some programs, but you defiitely do not need more
to boot from the CF and get workbench running. My other A1200 only has 2MB and boots up just fine.

Actually if I remember right in those cf cards you need more than 2MB to boot WB. Otherwise you have to boot it in Prompt only.

Mine booted just fine with 2MB and CF.

Same here

yes, like others have said, with the standard 2MB it boots up fine and to workbench.

Just so you all know, as I hate people that leave threads without saying what happened...

seems that in the startup-sequence if I commented out the lines that load the scsi module that this problem/slowdown does not occur and it boots up straight to workbench fast from first power-on.
