But does it blend...

By blend, I presume you are referring to the case itself. It does blend very nicely considering the low cost.

I originally thought you said BEND and was going to say that bending wouldn't be very healthy for the iPad.

I never tried to blend my ipad but forsee catastrophic consequences in the attempt

Would such use be covered by apple care?

Yeah, those tablets are very awesome innovation, you know?

Maybe the BBC actually did manage to patent the name before Apple could get there. Either that or they are still trying to reverse engineer some evidence that they patented it long before the BBC.

It's a miracle that Apple didn't sue Startrek NG creators for patent infringement!

Maybe because that's a Sci-fi series from the 80's, but Apple's lawyers can do anything.

There is a thought. Maybe the current Star Trek license owners should sue Apple for copying their tablet PC idea! :D

Finally bought a Nexus 7. Most places are completely out of stock but ordered as a next day store collection from John Lewis. Same price, but advantage of JW is you get 2 year warranty.

My wife also wanted a tablet, but it had to be white, and she's liked the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 for some time ago we ordered both. Using them both side by side, the Nexus is slicker but both are just as good for general use.

Ordered one of those cables so I can connect storage to the microUSB port. Will make up for it not having built in card slot. Also noticed don't need to root it to access and steam files from a connected device any longer thanks to an app, so can put music and films on a USB stick. Nice. :)

What apps would you all recommend for the Nexus 7? And has anyone tried offline maps with gps?

Also noticed an OS update to 4.1.2 was released this week. Adding landscape support to to home screen is good as that did annoy me, especially as the Tab has always auto rotated.

So is it worth rooting the Nexus? Isn't needed to access external storage, so what else is rooting useful/needed for?

There is so many Tablet out there now

ACER TABLET
Samsung Tablet
Apple Mini Tablet(that will be out soon)

I did like to have try on Android Tablets as they are getting better and better :)

Which Android tablet is best there is right now?

The Nexus 7 is definitely the best in many regards, and it feels a lot more expensive than it is.

Definately worth rooting.

I have rooted mine and installed a custom kernel that clocks it to 2GHz and clocks gpu to 600 MHz. It also uses less battery.

Made my Nexus 7, use only 3 to 4% battery in a work day average use.
I can now get 14 to 15 hours out of it on constant use.

It runs nice and cool, before anyone starts on about overclocking.

New update, that means will have to download the update and flash it via CWM recovery (only draw back to OTA updates and being rooted).
EDIT:- Thats odd, I dont see an update. It cant have been released yet.

The update isn't appearing for everyone yet. You can also download the update manually to install if rooted.

Sigh, I wanted to try tablet ui, so I altered build.prop, now it wont let me update, :(.
I have to backup and flash stock firmware back to tablet.
I see google dev site has 4.1.2 as a factory rom download. Ill install that, save messing around with updating.

Other than stability, the most noticeable update is the home screen now rotates with the tablet.

I've been using the Nexus 7 for a couple of days now and am really happy with it.

The only limitations compared to the Tab 2 are the rear facing camera and the built in SD card slot. I really don't see a tablet with a rear camera as a replacement for a proper camera... the only advantage would be if needing to add images to an eBay sale or forum post, where it could be handy. The card slot is an annoying omission from the Nexus 7 but I read it was to avoid paying Microsoft licensing fees, and you can connect external storage to the USB port anyway so all is not lost.

Otherwise the N7's screen is instantly nicer than the Tab 2's and the hardware is noticeably more responsive. Also some games are being released in optimised versions to take advantage of the 12 core nVidia chip.

I've also decided a 3G enabled tablet is a pointless expense, especially as you then need a mobile data sim and monthly contract with more expense. I've been tethering my Nexus 7 to my Sony Xperia Play when out and it works perfectly. I've used the internet, downloaded apps, used Google Maps for driving navigation and more. All worked perfectly.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 also has one limitation I hadn't realised before we bought one. It has a proprietary connector instead of a USB port. This means to charge it you need to have its connector to USB cable that came with it, whereas with the nexus 7 it has a standard microUSB connector so I can charge it from my phone charger, from the microUSB charger in the car, connect it directly to a computer to charge. So that is a bit annoying and IMO another advantage to the N7.

Rumours that Google are going to be replacing the 16GB version with a new 32GB version at the end of October. Will probably take some time to reach the UK if it is true though. A bit annoying also if true, but for the moment 16GB is enough as I'm streaming most media.
