Hi everyone :D I'm a life long commodore fan, and after emulating c64 for some years am missing the reassuring feel of the real c64, and want to get back to the scene :)

Am on the look out for a light fantastic pack fairly cheap, as I fondly remember my first c64 experiences being with that pack and particularly the bundled blaze out game with the light gun (loved the music from the robocop portion lol).

Other than that my interests are, well gaming and computing and tech in general and the odd film here and there :) I have also been known to use far too many smilies in my posts, so apologies in advance :D

So hi all :)

Welcome home. There's a very healthy and friendly C64 crowd on here.

Hi Magnox

I myself are also a c64 junkie

Like the guys have already said you get a really nice, friendly community here

I have seen Light Fantastic Packs come and go on the forum and on the other bay :)

Not sure if you're aware but there are several disk drive replacements for the c64 which allow .d64 and other file types to be played on your c64.

Most common are the SD2IEC and the Ultimate II

Welcome to the forum and have fun

Thanks :D And thanks for the heads up, I wasn't aware about the disk drive replacements, so will definatley look into those when I manage to pick me up a c64 :)

I remember I was solely a c64 tape man for many years until I picked up a second bread bin c64 which came with a 1541 drive and a stack of disks, still remember loading up the disk version of Tom and Jerry that came free and was blow away by the speed difference (Still got a soft spot for the old datasette and tapes tho hehe)

Very pleased to hear the light fantastic packs still are coming up occasionally!

Can tell I'm going to love it here :D

Hi,

Fairly new here myself but it feels like a good crowd and I'm sure you'll be made very welcome and have lots of good trades and banter.

Very much still a tape loader myself as I have so much original software but I'm slowly being tempted over to SD way of thinking

I have a light fantastic pack here only I need to check and see if I still have the gun. If so I could probably sell this as I'm erring towards unboxed systems (or at least stuff in smaller packaging) due to a severe lack of space and an ever expanding collection of systems. I'll have a look in the morning and if you're interested I'll sort some photos and a price.

Welcome to Amibay. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for here, whether it is good deals or friendly advice.

I just got myself a 1541 Ultimate-II and have not regretted it. It'll replace your disk drive, disks, cartridges and with the tape adapter cable, it'll also emulate a tape drive and tapes (and allow you to back up your current tapes to the SD card).

Hi BluesBrothers :D Thanks, would be really grateful if you find the time at some point to check your light fantastic pack :) I have very fond memories of that bundle and the games and software it came with, was my first encounter with a c64 in my life, the lightgun tech was like pure magic to me lol :D

Hello and welcome to Amibay!

I'm another fan of the Light Fantastic C64 pack too!

Hi there :D Yup for me it was always an amazing c64 bundle, loved the fact it came with so much software out of the box, felt like you were getting lots of stuff to start off your c64 journey with :)

Oh yes! It was incredible, and with the light gun too!

I would love to see more C64 light gun games.

*makes gun noises* :D

Agreed :D It would be great to see more lightgun compatible games! It seems to have been reasonably possible to convert existing material, like the robocop section being taken from the full ocean game that was orginally controlled with joystick for the crosshairs.

Makes you wonder if it was just a few lines of code to make it happen or something more time consuming :)

Judging by the quality of new titles being released on the c64 it makes you wonder if anything will be developed to support this amazing lightgun in the future :D Fingers crossed

Well, I (think) I know how it works. The light gun knows the coordinate of where you aimed by reading the position of the light beam at the point where the trigger is pulled. This coordinate can then be used by the game to determine what happens.

I think it'd be great to see what demo coders could do with a light gun.

The C64 is host to some of my favourite demos ever!

Most definitely :D Did you ever see the desert dream demo they remade on c64 from the kefrens original?

It was incredible, plus I always have felt alongside the amiga the c64 hosted some of the most incredible sound capabilities seen in a home computer, the SID chip on the c64 and Paula chip on the Amiga, legendary in my eyes :D

The name doesn't ring any bells.

I don't have a C64 set-up at the moment, so I won't be able to watch it on a machine.

I don't suppose you have a YouTube link you could share of it, do you?

PS. Can't agree more about the sound-chips. The SID was the first computer music I can recall, and the Amiga + Octamed really helped to develop my interest in music.

PPS. My all-time fave. YouTube Link: Dynamix - Jeroen Tel

PPPS. There's a thread or two on here where people have contributed to a list of their favourite computer music. I think they're well worth hunting for.
