fitzsteve if the PSU is the original one your system may be a tad underpowered. I have a 400 WATT PSU in my A4000T.

Good call, I'm using the stanard PSU, can I use ATX PSU with an adapter in my A4000 or does it need modification to the chassis?

Maybe I'll leave out some of the Zorro cards for now, just start with the PicassoIV and my IDE setup, get that working first.

Cheers!

The A4000 have only four Zorro slots. You'll have to skip one board.

I recommend you to ditch the Buddha and grab a SCSI bridge for the DVD and possibly another for one large IDE HD, as it is simplier than grabbing an unknown SCSI that may not be the right type and will also require convoluted termination scheme.

fitzsteve I know that amigakit.com has an adapter for my A4000T that allows me to use an ATX PSU but I do not know of any other combination.

Decided to takea break from the PPC and work on my A4000 since I've got the motherboard back today (Thanks again Zetr0 )

Rebuilt her and took er for a test driver, everything ok so grabbed that PicassoIV, man its a damn big card! And OMG its imposible to fit, I think a good hour of cursing and swearing till I finally got er in the slot :shocked

Fired her up and nothing, nadar, black screen :(

Not sure why but to get her to boot I have to force Zorro 2 mode even though its an auto sensing card and I thought I had Zorro 3 anyway? Oh well its up and running and fully setup now, I'll never tire of the auto switching graphics, AWESOME :D

As always I took a couple of pics...

More fun and games to come with the Z3 fastlane and Tocatta

Oh and I have a SCSI HDD & adapters arriving soon to run off the Z3 Fastlane.

Steve.

Mate, the Picasso is not fully inserted in the slot (second picture).

Its been out and back in since

Thanks for pointing it out though

Tell you what though, I wont grow tired of the auto switching Native/RTG this is the way forward!

Yes, the Picasso switcher is the Village Tronic's masterpiece.

Do you know if there is a problem because I have to run it in Zorro 2 mode?

I mean it all works. But Zorro 2 is slower right?

Yes, Zorro 2 is slower, but still faster than AGA. BTW: the video slot is on the bottom of the Zorro riser? I always think it was on the top slot?!?!

Yep bottom slot my friend

Maybe its different in A4000T or something?

I'm looking forward to when Mrs Fitz goes up to read a book, I'll go up and play on the A4000 :D

Thought I'd updated this, progress has been a little holted for two reasons. Firstly the SCSI HDD I bought arrived DOA and I'm waiting for a replacement and secondsly I need a Super Buster 11 to use the Z3 fastlane.

I might have a go at installing the Tocatta Soundcard over the weekend though. For now however she is all setup quite happy with the A600, I've been thrashing out some games on the new Arcade Fight Stick which I'm very pleased with.

She might be moving downstairs though as we have some space in the dining room and I'm thinking of getting one of those nice corner desks and setting here up on that.

Anyway for now - this is the happy couple chillin out! (Don't worry they're fully covered from the nasty light when not in use!)

you havemy envy my friend, I have wanted a toccata for evers! lol

I remember having the idled dream that one day my A1200 with its Winer Z4 busboard would have one of these one day....

Irony is now I have PCI for that puppy with a nice choice of Audio cards to choose from.

still that does look a monster in that thing - remember 16bit recording direct to drive is quite nice - and a great way of creating sound files for use with MakeCD =D

nice machine and build mate, i wish i had the money to get a 4000 i have always wanted one maybe oneday.

Thanks guys, I really love this machine - I never thought I would join the big box club but when the opportunity came along to own this fabulous machine and so pleased I got it!

@chiark I'm running Classic Workbench OS3.9 and play CD games such as Doom/Genetic Species/Gloom and WHDLoad. Also like to mess around in workbench as the 040 @40mhz really makes its way round the OS very fast indeed.

Looking forward to having some fun with the Tocatta, I like the idea of the 16bit recording :D

There's some software bundled with the card that I want to take a look at.

Steve.

I feel a surf update coming on, lets hit the beach and catch a wave or 2

Tocatta Rocks! but... X-Surf Sucks

Tocatta Rocks! but... X-Surf Sucks

Decided to go back and spend some time with the A4000 today, she was sad that I've been spending so much time with a certain PPC! :shhh:

First I tried to install my X-Surf that arrived earlier in the week but it just wont boot with the card inserted, probably another Buster9 issue so I've started a help thread here

I have already asked missus Fitz to get me a Buster 11 for my Birthday so will just have to wait on that...

Here is what I was trying to setup:

I've already configured the gaming adapter for my wireless network, so in theory if the X-Surf was working I should be able to get online via WiFi with the Sana2 Driver and MiamiDX, but today it wasn't meant to be, shame because I wanted this ready for the R3tr0 R3play event.

Finally tested the Tocatta though! WOW - What an amazing card, I had my little A600 playing some mod files plugged into the 'Line In' and recorded them on the Tocatta in 16bit right into the RAM (this is where 140mb+ of Ram comes in handy!) They played back perfect and it only use 20% CPU whilst recording and playback.

What a great card, look forward to more fun and games with this. I'm guessing I can use it with AHI as a souncard for games and such? Will have to play with the settings a bit and get my head round it - but I'm still staggered by what this baby can do!

Good Times.

After playing some more with the A4000 I decided to make a little video of the Tocatta recording some Mods, enjoy!

ps. I know I have no idea what I am doing LOL :D

OMG I just found out you can pass the A4000 Paula RCA output straight into the Tocatta 'Line In' and the sound is played back through the Tocatta, even WHDload games

I played back some MP3's/Mods and recorded them this way as well, also wasn't expecting my 040@ 40mhz to play MP3's so well or is this the Tocatta helping out?

Awesome stuff - well pleased!
