This is a beautiful machine, I hope soon I will get to see her!

What a machine you have there Steve and very white too and for free! What a find! Nice work with the upgrades too ;)

And Genetic Species! I forgot all about that game, its in my collection along with Naplam, Earth 2140 with mission pack, Nemac IV, Quake with Malice, ADoom and Foundation, just to mention a few of the late games. Have not played any of these since my 4K decided it needed a "rest".

Now after reading your thread, I miss mine even more :(

Anyways, nice Steve, very nice :D

@Geraldine glad you like the project and what I've done with it

Yes I was very lucky to get a machine for free in such great condition, I'm so pleased that I got the oportunity to own one.

Hopefully you'll have yours up and running again soon.

Steve.

Its been a while on this one! But my A4000 is back up and running :D

I got my new daughter board today and as soon as I re-built the PicassoIV was working fine.

So I tried with the X-Surf again and she still wont take it, flashing power light.

And after removing the X-Surf the Picasso stopped working again (the scan doubler)

The problem seems to be that the X-Surf is too big and pushes the daughter board out of line, I think this may have done lasting damage to my old daughter board. As soon as I realized the problem the X-Surf was out and I re-built the machine again.

Thankfully the PicassoIV is working fine again, and I really hope it stays that way now

Screws are back on and I'm not opening the machine again unless I really have to!

Steve.

Steve.

I say that everytime I open mine and low and behold the tops off within a week :D

Dave G

Screws I`ve heard of them things hehehehe
think only one PC here has case screws one nearly every machine has easy access, that is no case screws :)

if it is pushing it out a bit, try taking the plastic runner of the back see if that gives it a little bit more room,
If you think that card is over sized the gvp 040 for the a1500 deff is !!

Wow, has it really been that long since this project had an update

Don't worry this A4000 is still much loved

I recently bought her a little upgrade:

Finally got round to installing this little fella last night and tested this morning as I had the wrong files. I used the Siron stack first but realised it didn't support USB Mass Storage which was one of the main reasons I wanted simple USB on this A4000, the lack of a PCMCIA makes file transfers a bit of a PITA and I hate burning CD's etc... Also I'll get the benefit of USB Networking when I find a suitable adapter.

Well here she is, the card was a little too long so didn't fit at first - I had to take out the screws holding the backplane in place, but its secure enough.

And my little USB Flash Disk plugged in :)

And some shots of it up and running

I get this set address failed error on first boot - but a restart fixes that, weird eh?

There we go USB working and Flash Disk detected :D
