Hey guys!

I stripped down my A4k Tower today to do some fault finding, as always once out of the case everything seems to work fine

Going to leave Doom running all day, see if I get any lock ups... Enjoy the Saturday morning pr0n

Gotta fill those Zorros!

Gotta find the fault first :(

Still locking up after about 20-30 mins, don't seem to be heat related - 040 is cool, gals luke warm.

Tried without the Z3 Fastlane and still locked up so that isn't the issue, now running without the CV64/3D :coffee:

Try to clock down 040 back to 25MHz. Mine is locking after a few minutes with 33MHZ.

LOL

I spoke to soon, just locked up

Ok, time to clock back to 25mhz

have you tried cleaning the chip/fast simms? also I was experiencing lock-ups on my A4000D when using AGA because of weak +5v line on the PSU... it might worth a shot to try a different one

What about another Version of 040 Library?

They all do things slightly differently. ;)

Kin

If it is locking up it could be A3640 related (numerous problems with DMA/Zorro cards).

Have you got Buster 11?

Earlier versions of CybergraphX often locked up with my CV64-3D with Boing Bags on OS3.9 (no idea why).

Cheers keropi,

I've not cleaned the Simms yet and sadly don't have another PSU to test with :(

Its running at 25mhz now, we'll let her run and see how long I get

I have a 60mhz X-Tal here I can pop in later if she's stable and see how we get on at 30mhz :ninja:

Steve.

@PhilipMcD

Yep, I have Buster 11

@Kinny

System was running fine till recently, I've had it running several hours at 33mhz, nothing has been changed.

The lockups started happening in the last couple of weeks :(

Gah Steve. Such a lot can happen over several weeks. Other installed Software; Degenerating Components; - Where do you start?

Power might be a good one & good luck with it. Will keep an eye on this thread with great interest.

Best for now.

Kin

Cheers, Kin - of course I know these Amiga's are fickle creatures ;)

This is all part of the fun isn't it? Stripping down the hardware and playing silly buggers.

Of course if something is really dead then its not fun!

We're about 25mins in, still running at 25mhz, will give it a good hour and see where we are

Z3 Fastlane & CV64/3D are back in by the way - only running 4x 16mb Simms on the Z3, but I think we ruled that out as the issue as it was crashing without it...

Steve.

Personally I'm not so sure about that these days.

Taking in mind the older they get, well, you know...

With the Replay on the horizon, I think I'm more resolute than ever about selling off most of my gear.

Even Jens' fancy scandoublers look pointless in comparison to the FPGA single-board solution!

I overclocked once MMX166 to 200 (and something) and it worked fine for weeks in windows till I wanted reinstall windows and it was locking in the middle of install. It took me a few hours to think about overclocked CPU ...

Well its still going so I think the 33mhz OC was the problem, guess its not getting any younger lol.

Going to drop in a 60mhz X-Tal and see how she runs at 30mhz :)

Looking like you're onto something Fitz. ....Keeping them crossed for you.

Cheers mate!

Been running at 30mhz for 20mins, again Doom Demo running.

We're in the zone now lol!!!

One thing I will mention, the extra 5mhz makes a big difference in Doom!

Oh yes.... You should see what an 060 does for Doom. ;)

Kin

good luck with the fault finding steve , my 3640 ran at 33mhz with no issues for hour after hour but overclocking is always pushing things :-)

i never did see doom on my 060 :-(

@mjnurney

Thanks for the kind words mate

Shame you didn't get your Doom going on your 060, it is awesome as kinny says, you should see it on my 330mhz PPC lol

Anyway - still running at 30mhz 40mins in.

Aight'

Looks like 33mhz was just too much for this aging classic :ninja:

Running fine with 30mhz, I've piled some more Ram in the Z3, and we're back in testing.

The fact this machine has been running Doom now for 5 hours is actually pretty impressive, I know we had the crashes early on but no time was given to cool down, just fired her right back up!

Kudos to the A4000!

Yay, I think we have a result. Everything back together and fingers crossed seems to be working as it should :)
