Your A4KD guts being old has nothing to do with your A3640 Card running @ 33Mhz. It's more a case of; Some will.... & some won't & that too can depend on the Quality & Serviceability of every component on the card.
Not all Silicon will go the required distance for starters & then there is the architecture of the Card itself. I'm pretty sure IIRC, Arnljot fitted a 40Mhz 040 to a card that would not over-clock in any Instance, so whilst the CPU was more than capable, the card itself would not play ball.
As you have an over-clock on your card, trying a different 040 CPU might work for you, but again, there is no guarantee.
What would be apparent from this exercise is 33Mhz was just too far to be 100% stable, & Doom showed you this. Perhaps Doom should be the New Industry Standard for Benching Over-Clocked Amiga's.
Its a 33mhz RC 040 CPU, this is the one that d0pefish upgraded with new Gals. As I said it was running 100% stable for several hours at 33mhz for the last few months and then last week started locking up.
Not just Doom, even WHDLoad games or just fannying around Workbench, I just went with Doom for my tests to give it maximum workout
So no idea what changed between then and now, but glad its sorted all the same.
