Hi everyone
I'm hoping someone might be able to chip in here with advice. It's going to be a bit lengthy, but please stick with me
March 2015 - My much loved A3000 stops booting up, it sends a signal to the monitor but no actual picture. I later send the motherboard to TheCorfiot who repairs some burnt traces. Still the machine will not boot with my rev 3.1 A3640.
Feb 2016 - I finally get my hands on two rev 3.0, A3640's thanks to two of my Amiga buddies. On closer inspection one has been upgraded to the latest revision GAL's, kudo's to tbtorro for confirming this for me. Both cards post an insert floppy screen when inside my A3000, but only the updated card actually tries booting my HD. However for some reason it wont fully boot and hangs half way, I think this has to be a library or something as the machine will boot from a WB 3.1 floppy.
Now here comes the ruffle, my own rev 3.1 card has been checked by TheCorfiot and Zetr0, according to them the caps are alright and Zetr0 has even managed to get it working in his slightly beat up A4000. Bearing in mind, that I had told him I thought it was a dead card. So he was more then a little amazed when it booted up. Posting the card back to me, I finally tried it back in my A3000 yesterday, only to find it doesn't post a screen. My monitor says it's getting a signal when the Amiga is powered, but it refuses to post. The chips on the card get slightly warm, but thats about it. If that isn't weird enough, when I first installed the updated rev 3.0 card I'd been loaned. I secured it to the mounting points with screws, then when I powered up the Amiga, it didn't post. I removed the screws and then added them one at a time, at which point I found that by adding the left screw (amiga facing me), stopped the machine booting. In fact the way it acted, was exactly how it does when the rev 3.1 card it inserted in the slot.
So that is how far I've got, I'm tired, totally at my wits end and this problem is now going beyond my technical knowledge. Part of me wonders if it's an earthing problem. But the only way to know for sure, is if I try the card in another A3000 or A4000.
Also on a side note, I've noticed that unlike the other two cards, my rev 3.1 is missing a cap, C106. I asked tbtorro and he says that it shouldn't effect the card booting on a A3000.
