Yes, given the mali 400 mp/mp2 range of chips vs tegra 2. But still powerful enough. Size isn't a problem for the ouya either.

I guess it'll be a lot of this android game consoles.

Which was my fear and why I think they went at it wrong. It's gonna be a jungle out there with compatibility issues left and right :(

And that's exactly why it's not about hardware..
It's going to be (IMHO) about the Ouya "store" experience.
If they get that right (and they seem to have the right people involved, but who knows), they can come up with a software validation/distribution system that pleases the masses before it gets too splintered.
No, Google PLAY isn't it.. You need something more focused on the "console gaming" experience.

If they get that right, competitors won't matter. Hardware (faster/cheaper/kualer) won't matter for this, as the base hardware if "good enough" for their target market.
It's about the app experience....

I think they know that...

We'll see...

(I can even see them (if they get it working) licensing out access to their software, so LOTs of people can sell Ouya compatible devices, and even have them embedded in other devices...)

Ouya looks far more professional and you can see they've put a lot of effort into the ecosystem to support it - that was a major factor in me swallowing my pride and buying one.

This new systems designers seem to be crossing their fingers and hoping existing droid games will work and maybe older ones will, but the specs look quite weak even compared to the ouya.

Really???
Dual core with Dual Mali. Quite decent specs and 1GB ram to top it all off.
I think Gamestick is a cool idea.

My kids have mali tablets and there isnt much that does'nt run on it.
GTA, MassEffect, etc etc run fine on there, so why not on gamestick.

Well, there is a new iPad (and any other tablet brand) out every year, slightly better than the last. This is apparently the same, just as a console. I was expecting more like 2-3 years between each version but given this devices are not just a game console you can make your 2013 version control your toaster if the 2014 or 2015 catches your fancy more.

"all the games will be backward compatible"

"The games will be tied to you, the gamer," "(like Steam is now) rather than tying your game licenses to the hardware you purchased (like, say, Nintendo's Wii U)."

I like these quotes.

I also think the yearly upgrade is perfect. It will give the console market a well deserved kick in the ass. why pay $400 for a machine that is awesome for about 8 months, then is spread and stretched thin over the next 6 years when we have a choice to upgrade a $99 machine every year and get advancements as quickly as the mobile market is getting now?

By the time Ouya 3 hits, the PS4 and Xbox720 will be outdated bloat boxes.

And if Ouya catches on as good as I think it will, we might see a dedicated Gaming oriented app system that other manufacturers can license to create a standard, not just in boxes, but TV's as well as other devices.

Lets see..

Indeed!

I think they're shooting themselves in their proverbial feet, but then I never had much faith in the console aspect of it :)
May still get one for XBMC, but now I'm not really that interested anymore.

Interesting times for sure.

It may fail, it may succeed, but the face of gaming is changing, the industry is changing and I expect a lot more of this kind of thing will follow in the coming years.

AAA gaming will always have a place but it's time for what gaming used to be to come back in a new form I reckon.

Still waiting on mine, but I got into the Kickstarter towards the end. They were originally trying to get them all shipped by the end of April, but they bumped that out to the end of May.

With the amount of money they have been given they should be at E3 not in a parking lot from the show. What the hell are they doing with the money people have donated ?

This is the best time if any to really show off what the OUYA is all about.

I guess you saw it complete opposite to how I did. Does it matter where it is? And wouldnt you rather they spend that money on something more worthwhile? They are in the car park on purpose so the public can enter, something that wouldnt happen otherwise.

I like it, sounds like the are trying to make the developers a focus. It's also a bit different by setting up outside which makes them look different (eg good marketing exercise).

If the games and media streaming turn out to be good/interesting then I may well get one myself one day. I'm already happy with my 360 so I'll adopt a wait-and-see approach, certainly the PS4/XBOX One/Wii U don't interest me in the slightest at this point.
