Was thinkin about replacing the Cortex firmware with the HXC one on my Gotek.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages over the Cortex one ?

I paid Jeff from hxc2001.com 10 euros but he only supplied me with the standard links to download the STM32 serial bridge and the firmware.

The bridge software asks for a server and username and password ... I cannot do anything without those and I asked him but no reply yet.

Is that normal ?

Don't worry he will send the pass and user name, I waited an hour or so, also when connecting to the server it takes time to connect and rather a long time to download so wait for it to say its done !
Apparently it plays extended adfs so that's a bonus over Herv`s firmware and other formats but only after converting to .hfe(the HxC file format) which I have not tried yet,but it runs great and its easy to update the firmware using just put the update file put on the usb stick and holding the two buttons down on boot up for a few secs to read/write the firmware

Ok thanks. What about advantages or disadvantages over cortex firmware ?

**updated my previous post so re-read that Dougal :)

Cheers! Sounds promising. Hope i'm successful with the firmware installation.

I hope maybe it fixes the issue with the Cortex firmware with some multidisked games like Arabian nights

when you have downloaded the firmware, go and down load the files to put on the usb stick, you will need the latest firmware which is v3.0.2.5a(put it directly on the usb stick) then download the `SDCard_HxC_Floppy_Emulator_Manager` in there you will find the files needed for the Amiga,go to the `Amiga` folder and put the files in it`AUTOBOOT.HFE and the HXCSDFE.CFG` ones onto the stick also, then put stick into the Gotek, boot the Amiga while holding down the two buttons at the same time for about five seconds it will write the firmware to the Gotek and your done ! :)

Ok seems to be working fine!

Just tested Pit-Fighter (crap game I know) because with the Cortex firmware it had issues when asking for disk two. It is working perfectly with the HXC.

Now I just need to get used to the way the HxC firmware works as in using it.

Ok sorry to be a pain again. I dont get the way the slots work.

I tried Out of This world .... If i press TAB it shows Slot 1 - A: Out of this worl Slot 2 - A: Out of this worl

But when I press F10 to reboot the display only has 00 and i cant select slot 1 or 2

Hi guys so what would the differences be between both hxc and the gotec as I have both drives be if I use a gotec instead of the hxc

Any gains or losses

Hi John ,I only have the gotek so cannot tell you what differences there are between the HxC

the hxc is the better device.

im not sure if the gotek supports multi disk software, better to ask jeff whats supported..there has been some changes recently and i havnt checked them all

My Gotek is working well with the HxC firmware. It takes some getting used to as its not as simple as the Cortex firmware but it is much more customizable and has quite a few options.

The HxC firmware can also be upgraded via USB stick rather than having to use the serial device. That is a nice plus!

Jeff from Hxc2001 has just updated the Amiga software manager to fix an issue where file names with a DOT eg: another world (u.s gold).adf would show up in the SLOT list but would not work when rebooted. (Not even selectable). Hopefully with this update the issue is sorted. I will try it when I get home.

I have to say that for whoever needs anything regarding HxC, be it the firmware for the Gotek or any of the HXC SD devices for Amiga, Amstrad, ST etc... Jeff is a really nice guy. Extremely helpful and replies quickly.

I played Multi disk games with the Gotek with both Cortex and HxC firmwares.

You have to use SLOTS and ONLY Drive A as Drive B is not supported on the Gotek

the hxc is the better device.

Cheers guys I will have a play when I get back home as I'm on my hols at the moment

thats nice to know,i would still pick the hxc over the gotek even though its slightly more expensive.

does he still sell the ones with the screen?

Roy, I wouldn't call the difference slight.

We're talking 3 Goteks (incl. HxC FW + shipping) for the price of one HxC slim, which is the cheapest type.
